Being a bit of a porker myself you can do al the fancy faddy diets in the world but losing weight is a very simple calculation:
Eat less, eat well and excerise. You are garanteed to lose wieght.
These days it is far to easy to snack on rubbish (my problem), quite often foods that appear to be 'good' are actually useless. Since my daughter has been diebetic we have to study food labels and it has been a real eyeopener. I used to guzzle fresh smoothies but the amount of carbs in them is horrendous (although natural sugars).
The sugar industry is shameless, there is a vast amount of sugar added to our food unecessarily.
Did anyone one see the Martin Clunes in the doc program, his reply to someone asking how to lose weight was 'keep your mouth shut' [msnsmile2][msnsmile2][msnsmile2]

Precisely Martin, processed/ready made foods are the worlds worst[msneek] so many hidden sugars/fats/preservatives and additives, if you cook from scratch you know exactly what's in your meals, and as you say Martin don't drink smoothies eat the actual fruit, its too easy to swallow gallons of smoothie juice and it will not sustain you in the way eating whole fruits will and you will also consume way too many calories than you actually need[msnwink]
All my children were hyper senstive to addtives and I have always checked everthing they eat and drink and I cook 99% of their meals from scatch[msnsmile2]

My Mum's tip is to clean your teeth regularly as you feel less like eating after cleaning your teeth [msnwink]

I agree Martin. I was going to have a smoothie with my meal tonight-till I saw what was in it. I make them just with fruit-this had yogurt and goodness knows what else.
So-I passed-and then helped my little grandson with his ice cream sundae-Grrrrr!

If you ate the fruit individually, you get far less sugar in the way of fructose (so it's less fattening) than the loads of fruit that goes up to make a reasonable size smoothie, even if you only use the fruit itself.
It's a bit like fruit juice - it takes goodness knows how many oranges to make a glass of orange juice but, if you just ate one orange, then the sugar content (and therefore the calories) would be far less. [msnwink]

Even if you made one with just fruit it would be too much probably, what you have to ask yourself is would I eat that amount of fruit that you would put in a smoothie in just one sitting[msnwink]
Homemade ones are handy for children that sruggle to eat 5 pieces of fruit a day but always get them to drink it through a straw as the sugar has less impact on their teeth that way, and always as part of a meal[msnwink]

A bit of an update.
Well the ball is just 6 days away and I have been doing so well. I was never going to be a size 10/12 or 14-but my stomach has gone down considerably and my legs which get quite swollen aren't at all-so what did I do?
4 days before the end of my holiday I began to cut sugar out of my diet ie anything with sugar in and just upped my fruit and veg intake. Pretty much like slimming world-except I have simplified it just by cutting out that one food group (that we don't really need).
I was really despairing of what to wear. When we got back I was plunged into a family crisis as my favourite uncle was seriously ill. I mananged to get him to go to hospital and he was diagnosed with double pneumonia. They have no children and my aunt has a bit of dementia-so a lot of it came down to me to do.
I still stuck to my diet plan-and ignored all sweet and chocolate bars when in the hospital in favour of fruit and healthy snacks.
Sadly he passed away last week. I hadn't had much time to look for something to wear-I'd dragged my old faithful trousers out of the wardrobe-but yesterday I went ot the metro centre and actually got a dress-and not just ay old dress but one that actually makes me look quite good in it.
It's funny-but after hating the tops of my arms for years-I had envisaged wearing a sleeveless dress that was cut high into the armhole with a v neck and it had to be really long-I didn't want anything swirling above my ankles.
Well I found the one. I went and tried it on-and it's a cunning little number-with a little bit of clever ruching and draping and it just does amazing things to minimise my bust and give me a waist.(I do have a waist-but like dolly parton it's a bit overshadowed by my bust.) It's a size 16-and there's oceans of room in it-and even better it was only £5 more than the per una skirt I had managed to buy the week before (and which has now gone back.)
So-I am one happy bunny.
Apart from THE PROBLEM!
The Problem is-when I Florida to minimise getting burnt-I always wear a t shirt with a sleeve in-and I have tan marks on the top of my arms.
So I need to get some fake tan to -fill in the gaps. My dress has a V neck and a V back- I never liked that st tropez stuff-too messy.
Has anyone any ideas of what I can use?
So-all I need to do now-is just keep on doing what I am doing-and maybe lose anothe lb or 2 before the weekend.
-
Alison, get some fake tan and put that on daily and the t-shirt mark will soon disappear. Well done on sticking to the fruit during the latest crisis.
Sorry we did not catch up with you when we were in Florida.

Hi Alison,
I'm sorry to hear about your uncle but pleased to hear that you have found a dress for the ball. Have a wonderful time, I'm sure you'll look lovely, we will need pictures of course!
