Hate Brits moaning about the place, food, drink, service etc! If they don't like it, go to Clacton!
Any place that has a UK football shirt in it. I will NOT enter!
Never had problems with workmen or timings, Having lived in NY and NJ. I found out the secret. If they mess with you, holler and shout at them at a quick pace!
They get a bit confused, and usually agree with you!

I SO agree with you! South Orlando is full of British Pubs that are in turn full of ex pat Brits moaning on about how they miss good old Blighty! I avoid anywhere thats full of football shirts also!
Tourists, on the other hand, are great. Just so long as they're not complaining about the food, "oh it's not like at 'ome is it". I can catch up with whats happening in Europe when I chat with them at WDW.
I called Progress Energy yesterday to complain about a power surge we were experiencing. They were there with two trucks and a crew within 90 minutes. Problem fixed and away with a smile.
Jeff's right. Just be firm with anyone who fails to show up on time. Raise your voice and you'll get service. Usually with a smile.
I don't like the taste of most American bread, I don't however expect it to be anything like English bread, it is not England. I have, over the years, tried lots of different breads and can usually find an acceptable one. I never expect any Country to be like England. I am just happy that we all speak a similar language. I would love to experience workmen not turning up on time to do work in my villa it would mean I owned one. I own a caravan in South Wales and workmen there in my experience are just as unreliable. I would never go and have never been into an English Pub in Florida, if I wanted English food or to go in an English Pub I would stay at home. I come to Florida because I have discovered over the years that I just love America.

It seems to be the people who live or who have lived in the States that have less trouble with the workmen....I called lazyboy again today because it seems my sofa had two problems not one....he is coming out Tuesday the first day I have time....he will like last time phone the night before....the morning of his visit to make sure its still OK.....and an hour before turning up to say if he is running late..my hubby thinks I broke the springs because the guy is just so cute ....hehehehe..how could he think that of me.....I've yet to shout at anyone....but I will phone to be sure they are coming first thing in the morning.....and then again an hour before they should get here to make sure they are not running late.......I'm sure I will hit the ones who don't turn up without a call to say why at sometime....but so far I find workman very good at their job.....helpful....and near enough on time to keep me happy.......I do find a bit of buttering up works wonders....I always phone the boss if the workman was very good to say so....I always tip well when tipping is needed....and I always offer a drink to the guys while they work......

I'm just happy to see I'm not the only one not having trouble....... its a hard job for a MC to be everywhere......and it hard for companies to wait around if the MC is not there ....its also not nice to wait around when you're on holiday and the kids want to go see the mouse.......I can understand why everyone gets unhappy...I make sure companies know I'm on holiday....and ask if its a problem to arrive on that day and time...people have to remember anyone working with power can't work if a storms coming..it can make workdays very short in the summer...just when you need A/C repairs most......and its about the only time I've had a call to say someone could not get to me...but he was there first thing the next day......
i have to agree with most people.....How laid back the americans are wall mart especially. When i was at wallmart i waited 15 mins in a queue on a woman serving another woman and it was well hoe we doing mam? bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla to say the least i was:(And the next one is american food.....bread is to sweet.....potato waffles is like pancakes....no decent crisps....beer [xx(]The one thing i take my hat off to them is the dont care what the look like....meaning the obese ones they jus go out with their bikinis with their straps hiding cause the fat but the dont care.....In britain we wouldnt dream of it cause people talk about you and stare......i dont mean to be offensive but i think its jus so amazing that they get on with their life and dont care what people think or say
As a home owner I would have to agree with John and everyone else about the laid back attitude of most workmen in Orlando. I get so frustrated with the no-shows or lateness. But I have learnt to live with it - I just love Florida!!
I sometimes wonder is the laid-back effect due to the heat and humidity. I doubt that they could pace themselves the same as we do in Britain where it is usually quite 'nippy'. At home, I generally charge around, but would not think of doing it in Florida. I think it is just heat induced apathy really, which I suppose is understandable, although at times frustrating I agree. Chloe
