This is getting more exciting now. So many place to go, so much to see. We're now planning 2 nights in New York, then driving down to Orlando in 4 or 5 days.
Hope we can get it organised before we go...:)

I agree it is easy to get out of JFK using the Shorebelt Parkway Nostromo but think people will miss so much if they drive straight down the I-95 to Washington - Amish communities, Gettysburg, Blue Ridge mountains, Williamsburg - each one worth a day's visit. Surely the whole point of driving down is to see something of the country?

Another thing I forgot to mention. Are you hiring a car for the duration from New York? Only New York Car Rental is more expensive than Florida car rental. We did a one way hire then picked up our florida car once we got there. I suppose it depends how long you stay in Florida will be whether it is worth swapping cars. Cos the do charge a one way drop off fee. The funny thing is when we did it, Alamo said it would cost us $300 which was ok as we were staying in Florida for a month so it worked out cheaper. When we walked over to pick up our car I noticed Florida plates on it!!! Wasn't too bothered..... just got there.... just wanted to get on the move. Anyway it started eating away at me on the way down to Florida.....hang on a miniute..... I'm paying Alamo $300 to take a car back to Fla for them????.....Hmmmmmmm..... not happy. So when we picked up our next car I had a moan to the desk clerk about it said wasn't happy and wouldn't use Alamo again. She spoke to her supervisor and refunded the $300. :) Anyway Feathers good luck with your trip.
