Could that restaurant have been 'Timbers' Diane?

You know Phil I think your right. Had a good meal but I just wanted to get back to exploring the beaches. Can't wait to go back.[msnsmile2]

Gosh, looks and sounds lovely:D
Don't understand about the shells though, they give you bags to collect the shells but you can't take them home? How does that work?

Wow, it all sounds amazing and so enticing!!
Loving your photos Diane and your trip reports. Hope you have a great day at Aquatica [msnsmile]

It's just the washed up [u]live</u> shellfish you can't take away.

Glad to hear you made it there in the end, Diane. It's hard to stay away once you've been, and it's a real eye-opener the first time.
Next time a villa then? You definitely can walk to all the restaurants in Captiva from most of the villa rentals.

Think it's going to have to be a villa, although there is only the 2 of us I'm sure it will be worth it.
But can you advise me what you do about parking if you wish to drive to different parts of the Island? For example if we stay on Captiva and want to go to Sanibel will we have a problem? Most people seem to have bikes but in full sunshine it looked a bit like hot work![msnscared]
Again - thaks for help and advise, always much appreciated
Diane

Never had a problem parking on Sanibel Diane although I believe it can be more tricky in the Jan-March high season. There are a few car parks along the beach (Bowmans Beach, State Park and the Lighthouse) where you can stay a few hours for a couple of dollars. As is usual in the US, there will be decent toilets and water fountains at all of them.
I've always been able to park on Captiva but, as you've discovered, a space can take more looking for.

Can one of you Sanibel & Captiva experts tell me if the sand is really soft or is it crushed shells?
We're trying to decide which bit of the Gulf Coast to visit on our next trip and we'd like somewhere with really soft sand[msnsmile2]

Thanks Diane for another wonderful trip report and great photos.
These islands are on our list of "To do's" and we will get around to visiting them, hopefully in September when we are doing a road trip.
We have booked for a few nights stay on Anna Maria Island in May and are really looking forward to that.

White talcum powder sand. The shells are washed up at the tide line and form a very narrow strip but certainly don't affect the beauty of the beach. I'll be on there on Friday so if it's any different I'll let you know!!
