Big Thank You to My Travel
I'd just like to offer a big thank you to the My Travel information desk at Manchester airport who made the 9hr delay to flight MYT0051 at 09:45 on 4th June so much more bearable.
Here are the gory details and why we'll never fly My Travel again !!
The previous days flight to Sanford was delayed by 24hrs due to mechanical failure for which they couldn't get a part. It took off at around 09:30 on 4th June.
Our flight was due to take off at 09:45 on 4th June.
At 09:30 the display system told us that it would delayed by 2hrs with a new take off of 11:45, no vocal announcement was made.
At 11:45 an announcement was made that we'd get more news at 14:00. The information desk became besieged with angry passengers wanting to know what was going on and whether our flight had been taken by the passengers due out yesterday.
The answer we were given was that the plane that had left earier was the spare and that the other plane had been taken out of service for repair. our plane was also suffering from mechanical difficulties and being looked at by engineers.
We were given a £5 voucher each and told to wait and see.
14:00 came and went without a whisper of information, leading to another siege of the information desk.
'The plane's engines are being tested' came the reply. 'but they cant get the plane across the runway to the test bay due to the traffic'.
Gullible fools, we took them at their word and waited for more information, watching the beleaguered plane sitting there being looked at by engineers.
16:00 came and went, the display still told us 'More information at 14:00. No information arrived.
17:00 arrived along with a few very angry passengers who eventually bullied the information desk staff into bringing somebody up who might know what was happening.
They got someone to see us, but she claimed to know nothing other than there was a mechanical fault which could be fixed in minutes/hours/days, and talk switched to hotel rooms and compensation.
After arguing with several people, she finally saw fit to give us another £5 voucher each and told us to wait and see.
At 17:30, an announcement was finally made that flight MYT0051 would be taking off at 18:30. A cheer erupted from the departure lounge as we headed down to the gate.
After finally getting on the plane, the pilot apologised for the delay, telling us that he was very sorry that our flight had been taken by yesterday's passengers whilst their plane waited for the part to be flown in for us to use.
The cabin crew were as perplexed as we were, having been given no information and left to sit and wait all day too.
So 9 hours later, we finally landed in Sanford, cleared customs (without photo, scan or search), picked up our car and arrived at the villa at 01:30 local time, 27hrs after getting up the previous morning.
I cant fault the actual flight over here, just the people on the ground who kept us appraised of the situation (or not).
This is the second time we've flown with My Travel. The first involved a 10hr delay on our return journey. On that occassion we didn't have a nine month old baby to worry about.
We wont be flying with them again !!!
