We fly tomorrow and have today received a letter from the tour operator saying thet none of the villas has a BBQ, but we can hire a gas one. We have to sign a reply to confirm we have got the message.
Has something happened in a villa (ie has one burnt down) due to a BBQ, and they have taken them all out??
By the way, I wasn't expecting there to be one, it just seems funny we have to send an acknowledgement.
I think this is probably to do with fire regulations about the storage and use of BBQs and also because the cleaning issue is a big one (new guests want a clean one and departing guests don't want to clean the one they've used!).
There are all sorts of flammable bits on villas, like the pool net screens for instance, which make these an issue that some individual owners and management companies aren't willing to take any longer because of increasing insurance costs. One owner had guests who had a BBQ on their kitchen floor! [:0]
Read the wording carefully and make sure that by "acknowleging" you are not in fact requesting to hire a BBQ.
I have been reliably informaed (by esprit) that charcoal barbeque's are illegal in rental properties due to the fire risk and also personal burn risk from the coals. Gas ones are ok, as long as they are not stored within the property. So you can have it outside on the patio, but not in the garage.

Why not buy a plug in one.....easy to clean......heathly food......etc......you can buy one cheap enough in Sears with a cooler........
You can buy the throw away ones at the Publix or Walmart..I know they are small but you dont have to worry about cleaning them etc.
But if you get one of these, please don't put it on the pool deck to cook in it otherwise you'll cook the pool deck too! They also must not be stored in the house or the garage.
To be honest as much as we love a BBQ, I wouldnt have one from the safety point of view
Do any of the country parks have BBQ areas?
We aren't really bothered about having a barbeque, I was just curious.

We have a local BBQ area in Mass just up the road....tennis courts football field......soccer field...play area.....basketball......a county walk......baseball field......and all free.......[8D][8D]
We should use it more......when I think how much some people are paying in HOA fees to get those things....its a bit of a waste......I think thats why I looked for a place with low fees....and few extras to take care of.because I knew I would never use anything.....but a common BBQ area would be a nice thing to have in FL for get togethers......
