CDW or LDW?

Hi All,

We are currently looking at car hire for our forthcoming house-hunting trip to Orlando in April, and are wondering if there is any difference between CDW and LDW. Some car hire companies mention CDW and others mention LDW. Are they the same thing, or do we need both?

I was under the impression that they are both the same (or almost similar).

Hi Guys, I have to look this up again, but ther is a big differance between them both, One covers you if a non insured driver hits you.
The other only covers damage that you would do.If you have not driven over there before read the small print before you decide. I'll try get more info for you.

I have done a bit of research because I thought they were similar as well as Nostromo. I got this off a a car hire website.

CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), LDW (Loss Damage Waiver), PDW (Physical Damage Waiver). Although technically not collision insurance, in return for a daily fee, CDW or LDW waives the right for a rental car company to recover money from the renter if the vehicle is damaged or stolen. This does not cover damages made to someone else's car during your rental (third party damages). Your personal or business auto coverage normally covers this when you are renting a car. Check first with your car insurance agent.

You need to take out 'Extended Protection' or something similar, this protects you against an uninsured driver accident. I have just read this off of my ALAMO agreement so I think you may have got it a bit confused dolpinv.

Be careful with extended protection tho', this is not the sam
EP is also called 'top-up' used for protection against non or porrly insured drivers & hit-run.
Did you know top - up can be purchased in the UK!
Be careful however if you rent Dollar (unless they've changed their policy recently) they DO NOT accept any other insurance unless sold to you by themselves!!!

I have just found this FAQ on the car hire section of this site:-

"Is CDW insurance included?

Yes, CDW is included (as well as all other required insurance). In Florida it is termed 'LDW' (Loss Damage Waiver) which is identical to CDW (Collision Damage Waiver)"

My car was arranged by Charter Travel THROUGH this site. One of the administrators sent my details to them and they contacted me. Does your "fully inclusive" cover apply to that as well?
