Florida school terms
We will be in Orlando in late August/Early September and we were wondering when the Florida schools go back after their summer break. A couple of years ago our 2nd week coincided with the 1st week back at school for the Florida children and we saw a dramatic decrease in numbers at some parks especially the water parks. Hopefully we may have timed it right again and any information you have will aid our planning[msnsmile2]

Hi
I think Michelle is correct as we are flying out on the 10th August and we tried to get my son into basketball camp for a week but the finish the week before we arrive, ready for the children to go back to school.

They normally go back mid August.
However for those who are out there before that you do have the advantage of TAX Free Week, when clothing and some other items below, I think $50 in price, are sold free of tax.

Wow thanks for that piece of info....I'll be able to pass that onto my friends.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is not going to be a Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday this year. Apparently the legislators, specifically state senators, were worried about tight budgets and didn't want to lose any revenue!
Dianne: I'm out there from the beginning of August. I'd be interested to know details of the basketball camp you tried (and any others you're aware of). Many thanks.

Hi. I was thinking of going to disneyland next year either at Easter or end of august. I notice the american schools go back near the end of august so the parks get quieter, but what about Easter 2009. Are the americans at school two weeks beginning 3 April 2009?
Many thanks. We obviously want to go when the parks are quieter!

Lyn, Easter is the busiest time of year out there. I have a very good friend who works for Disney security and she says that they dread Easter every year, its even busier than Christmas. If you can avoid the holidays then you have a better chance of enjoying all the parks without the heaving queues. If you cant avoid school hols then one of the best times is the last two weeks of August. Went to Busch gardens last year on 26th August. Walked straight on all the rides, absolutely no queues and they were even waiting for people to walk onto the safari ride. It was heaven and much more enjoyable when you get the chance to see and do so much more because of the lack of crowds. Gill
