Dame Anita Roddick died tonight after suffering a major brain haemorrhage, her family said.
The Body Shop founder died at 6.30pm at St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, at the age of 64.

Her husband, Gordon, and daughters Sam and Justine were all with her.

A statement released by her family tonight said Dame Anita had been admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit yesterday evening.

It said: "Gordon, Justine and Sam Roddick are very sad to announce that after suffering a major brain haemorrhage, Anita Roddick died at 6.30pm this evening at the age of 64.

Liesa, Haven't seen or heard the news yet today. Just logged on to the forum and couldn't believe it when I saw your posting. What a shock, Pavrotti and Dame Anita in a week, how awful [msncry].

I was lucky enough to see Pavrotti at a Three Tenors Wembley concert and will always remember a magical evening.

Anita Roddick has a more personal significance though, as I was one of her early customers. I was also priviledged to accompany her to present the 'Against Animal Testing' petition to the European Parliament in Brussels. She was the most amazing woman, her energy was incredible and I can't believe she's gone.

Heard this on the news last night, was shocked to hear another amazing woman has died (Don't forget about Jane Tomlinson also lost her figght last week).

oh yes of course, Dear Jane Tomlinson, what a wonderful woman, she most certainly had a place reserved in Heaven, God Bless them all xx

Wow, money can't buy a long life can it. I didn't realise Anita Roddick was 64. Jane Tomlinson was amazing. It makes you realise how insignificant some things are.

Could not believe the news as I saw her inteview just 2 weeks ago on a morning show on TV She was talking about a having been given blood when she had one of her children a long time ago and it was contaminatited and she was making people aware about taking a blood tranfustion .
The story was she was telling that for insurance she had to have a medical and they had found out that she had hiv from the blood given years ago .

Anita Roddick was infected with Hepatitis C not HIV!!![msneek]

Thanks for correcting me ELIZABETH I can see her face now and she was very confident and sorry to here she has died so soon after seeing her .
