Nervous about flying
Do other people get like me? We fly on Saturday and my tummy is just so upset, yet I have flown many many times and often unaccompanied. I know I will be OK once at the airport and even better after take off but I can't seem to stop this nervous tension. I love flying and I despise myself for feeling this way. Just wondered how other folks get on and if there are any sure fire remedies (apart from a whole bottle of Scotch!!)

My wife is a terrible flyer. She went to the doc and got some Valium prescribed purely for flying. They work very well for her.

i am not so keen on flying, i dont feel quite as bad when we're up in the sky, but i have rescue remedy and valium to help me!!!

As I have got older I like it less, but once we have taken off I am fine.

I don't like it much - but it's worth it to get to Florida [msnwink]

I have heard a lot of good things about Dr Bachs Rescue Remedy. You can get it in Boots and health shops.
I get 'the jitters' for a few days before. I think it is a mixture of excitement, nervous that something may have been forgotten when packing, checking and double checking all bookings are in place, and hundred and one things going through my mind that I have to remember (because of course no one else will remember them).
Actually, a G&T helps to relax me - but only when I know we have managed to get to the airport on time, checked in and I can see the screens clearly ready for boarding.
Try the Rescue Remedy - it doesn't have any effect on you mentally, but helps to settle the tummy and mind.
Failing that SCOTCH is always a good stand by !!!![msnwink]

Lisi, I have no problem with flying, but as airline staff we travel the world standby. I try to be cool and relaxed, we always allow extra time to get home or have back up tickets from other airports, but I can never eat before a flight as my tummy won't stay cool!!! [msneek]
Even when I am pretty sure we will get on, it doesn't help. The one time I had a firm ticket, our spa was late being delivered, then we got caught in a traffic jam and I nearly missed the flight [msnembarrased] Once I'm onboard champagne or G & T works wonders [msntongue]

i would recommend Kalms, they are great and just take the edge off, a bit like that feeling you get when you've just had a glass of wine at the end of a really stressful day[msnwink]

Thanks guys - it really helped. Normally we travel down to Gatwick the night before and stay over, but this year no 1 son's pal owes him a favour so is driving us down on the morning. I think I am really scared he will not turn up, or we will have an accident on the M25 or something dire will happen to prevent us catching the flight! As this holiday has been planned for ages I am terrified something will stop us going. I am sure it will all be ok but would rather have done our usual night before thing. Shall try the rescue remedy Sundowner, as have already drunk the Scotch!!! [msnwink]

I used to get very nervous on the day of flying and at one point felt like not getting on the plane. However my family and I love FL and I decided to do something about it, I went to see the doc and was prescribed valium as mentioned earlier. This was very useful and at first took the full amount allowed and gradually reduced the amount and now I very rarely take any at all. The first time I used it I was worried that I would be” zonked out” when we arrived. However this wasn’t so and fortunately my wife is happy to drive anyway. ;)
