Hi everyone, sometime since I've used the forum, apologise to all.
My insurance on our day van has expired, and due to arrive late November. I was informed last time that USA D.L. wasn't required, as I could put any number of short stay visitors on the policy, all of course without USA licences.
Who do you you insure with, and what is the agent please with e address or phone.
Have insured with Progressive the last 3 years.

My understanding is that the policy holder needs a full FLorida license and must a USA resident then anyone visiting and staying with policy holder (at there homestead)for less than 30 days, would be covered. Thts is the policy we used toi get through Gieko.

There was a thread about this some while ago. Before that thread my understanding was basically the same as Martin states above. Several companies I checked with all required a Fl licence, but not USA residency.
However Progressive apparently will issue insurance but it will expire if you do not get a Fl licence within 30 days.
Obviously it is impractical for most people to keep getting a new licence on every visit - it now expires when your I-94 expires.
The cost of insurance for myself was horrific - well over $2,000pa. My brother who lives in the USA (and has a perfect record with State Farm insurance) did offer to 'buy' and insure a car with myself as a named driver but the costs again made it impractical.
It seems to me that you need to spend a lot of time in the USA to make owning a car a better option than renting - particularly if you cannot get to and from the Airport easily.

Both are correct, as in, I did spend 11 weeks this year and 9 weeks last year in the land of bliss. Someone did work out the break even point at about 12/13 weeks a year for the smallest 2 door jobby.Can't be there the same amount of time. But I'm talking 7 seats, huge load capacity as in 1/2 ton. Just can't be ar""d with standing in line for a half a day re newing the licence at $180. Have other things to do.So am now considering in letting go.
Anyone interested in a 1995 Chevy Astro, new gearbox 130K ish on the clock, twin A/C you know the sort of van, moon lights, TV, grand kids go daft about.
Silly thing is, if I bring back to the UK, worth about £7k. Anyone got $4.5k.
