CDV DOES KEY WEST
Well here is part two as promised, better late than never!
We left Naples early on the Thursday morning and headed off on the journey down to Key West. The drive was fine and the boys shared the driving. We stopped off at the edge of the Everglades to do a bit of gator spotting. Managed to see a glimpse of a baby gator and also a bigger gator just as we were leaving. So that made the morning! Lots of birds and turtles etc to be seen on the journey, so we got snap happy! We stopped for a bite to eat at Subway and then made our way down to the Keys stopping in Key Largo for a quick break and drink.
We eventually arrived in Key West and found the hotel and it was absolutely boiling! We had little time to unpack and settle in before heading off to Sunset Key via Duval Street. Some were desperate to get there so off we went walking...boy not the right move, we were all whacked by the time we got there, it was soooo hot. Grabbed a drink and then watched the sun set and all the performers, fire eaters, escape artists, performing dogs etc etc. We have seen it before but it was new to R&A and they enjoyed the experience. We then split up and arranged to meet later but it was very busy and we got lost. We had a look round and no sign of the others by this time it was after 10 and we were starving so we headed off to Duval Street and to one of our favourite haunts the HRC, where low and behold sitting at a table were the missing persons, they obviously did not try hard enough to loose us[laugh][laugh] as they knew this is where we would probably end up. After a nice meal, they headed back to the hotel and Mr CDV and I hit Fat Tuesdays where I just about mananged a bucket of Pina Colada with an extra shot of rum, well it was so strong I had to ask them to put more frozen colada into it. I have the souvenier cup and pictures to prove it! God I was a little tipsy that night.
Next morining we had breakfast in a little Cuban Cafe, Spanish Omlette and I had Coconut water straight form the nut...YUMMY!
We had decided to do a tour of the place on the little train but it was a walk to get it and R had sore feet/blisters from our walk the night before so we decided to get the hop on hop off bus which takes you to all the main places. We got that just from the hotel so we were all happy with the prospect of not much walking!
The first place we went to was Hemmingsways house, I suppose it had to be done but it was not for me! Next stop was the Key West lighthouse where a better time was had by all. We were all knackered by the time we climbed to the top. There are some fantastic views of Key West to be seen from there. I made Mr CDV go back up again so I could take snaps of him from the top.......and he did as well! We then got back on the bus and went down to Sunset Key for lunch. The bus driver had suggested a place and we ended up there. It was really rather pleasant. A Cuban resturant where we sampled the delights on offer. I decided to be adventurous and had a platter of three smaller portions of Cuban dishes and the boys had a larger plate of one of the dishes. My meal was washed down with the obligatory Sangria!
After that we wandered around the area just chilling. R was tired so her and A decided to go back to the hotel. We returned with them and sat on the bus touring the place for a good while before we got back so lots to see and there is a run in commentary from the drivers so it is worth doing. Whilst the other went to lay down Mr CDV and I jumped in the jeep and went for a bit of a cruise, visited a couple of shops.....well it has to be done....then visited a couple of beaches. We ended up back at our hotel and drove to the Southern Most point in the United States and had a few snaps there. then it was back to the pool and chill out time.
We then decided it was feeding time and I suggested Jimmy Buffets, which turned out to be a fine night, tasty food and live music and then a taxi back to the hotel ready for our drive back to Orlando on the Saturday morning. We did contemplate staying another day but I think the weather
