I am visiting relatives in Danville, Illinois for 2 weeks in May-June 2005 and plan to spend a few days in Chicago. I have been invited to Six Flags Great America park near the city by the family. I have never been to this park and would like some comments please, including how long one should allow to see the park at that time of the year.
PS: A new water park called 'Hurricane Harbor' is to open next door in 'Spring 2005'. :)
Haven't been to the one in Chicago but have been to one near Annapolis and one in Holland. They have some absolutely brilliant roller coasters. We spent a day in each park. You'll love the roller coasters Nostromo, a breeze after doing the sky coaster.:D

Thanks. But what's the layout like? When you say 'one day in each park' how many are there?
Sorry Nostomo, think i've confused you. At the six flags we have been to, there was only one park, split into different areas, a bit like MK. Have you checked out the website for the plan of the park? Also another tip is to buy your tickets from them on-line, we saved $7 on each ticket compared with the gate price.[msnsmile2]

Thanks again. Yes, I went to their site soon after your message and got most of the answers. Sounds great. The one in New Jersey is going to get the World's fastest (138 Mph), tallest (over 400 feet) Rollercoaster soon and they expect the Chicago one to follow suit, hopefully to be open by the time I go. [msnsmile2]
We live 5 minutes from Six Flags New England and go all the time!
OUr kids love it- and you can do it all in one day! I fyou get their Q-bot (like the Disney fastpass- but you pay for it) You can ride all the big rides instead of waiting in line.
We have had Hurricane Harbor for a few years now and that is a great way to spend a whole day!
I also agree buy your tickets online- we have season passes but when our nieces came it was cheaper to buy the tickets at the local grocery store- even cheaper than online! Your cousins will know which way is cheaper.
Ahhh......Karen, now I know where we can stay over night when we go to six flags.[msnwink] Do you go to the Big E? We usually go, but did not make it this year.

Nostromo you will love Six Flags in Chicago as I read your reports and your a real deardevil!! The park is full of fast rides and huge rollercoasters..Turned into a chicken at an older age but born and raised in Chicago use to go all the time to Great America.

To be frank, there was a time I used to be terrified of going on a Ferris Wheel. I was 23 when I went on my first rollercoaster, a puny job at Araneta Center in Manila. But I guess I got a bit braver as I grew older. Now, after riding The Slingshot [msnscared][msnscared][msnscared] and Sky Coaster [msnscared][msnscared] at Old Town, I feel I can face anything.[8D][8D]
