I have read very interesting post regarding moving to Florida. It looks like to get their with a VISA, either you have to buy a business or be sponsored by a company that can employ you.

I am a Civil Engineer and working for the water industry, we love florida and bought our villa there. Just recently thinking about posibility of living in Florida but I am not sure how or where I can find names of company that I can contact or send CV's. I would also like to contact the water companies in Florida see if they're looking for people to employ.

Any information will be much appreciated.

Thanks

It depends whether there is a shortage of Americans to work in your field as you will need labour certification. You will also need a degree or many years specialist experience in your field. Sending your CV to Polk Utilities could do no harm. They have a water shortage problem at the minute with all the building are looking for alternate sources so you never know your luck.

Thanks Julie, much appreciated. I read on forum before that Orlando Sentinel has section for job advertisement, just wondering if anyone else know any other newspaper or website where you can find job advertisement.

Has anyone tried getting a Florida Real Estate License? I've heard that most real estate companies will hire anyone with a license.

hi mike

i have got a real estate licence and yes a lot of companies will take you on and why not you are working on commission only so what does it cost them....
every firm will tell you they are the best but check out the deal they offer ie training, floor time, leads, how much the split is and how much everything costs to you ie desk fee, comp time, fax, phone,....

the pre course lasts 60hr then a state exam its very intense....
then you need to be a member of the florida realtor board to get access to the mls if your broker is a member you have to join...

the cost for me so far in 6 months approx $2000 so work out how many sales you need just to break even....

as a general rule of thumb the top 5% of realtors do 95% of the business....

if you need more info just dm me

Mike, the real estate schools are jammed at the moment with Americans, newly out of work and shifting to real estate to make a living. There are an enormous number of new agents in the Orlando/Kissimmee area and the competition is becoming quite intense. Investing in a business is possibly an easier and more profitable option.

I heard that 150 realtors per week are being produced in Florida. When they start work, it is commission only. At the moment, the real estate agents windows are empty, there is nothing to buy. So they arnt selling much. I agree about a small number of successful realtors with contacts getting all the pickings. Many realtors never do any more than sell their own house or their relatives and friends. I know of someone who trained just to do that. A lot of people also do it as a second string to their bow. Most managemment agents seem to do it sooner or later, but it isnt their only source of income.
