Hello Shazbat, not good news I'm afraid.

Changes to the USA Visa Waiver Programme applicable from 26 October 2004
From 26 October 2004, ALL passengers intending to travel to the USA on the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) will be required to present a valid Machine Readable Passport (MRP).

In addition, Children travelling on the VWP will no longer be eligible to travel to the USA on their parent's passports and will be required to hold their own valid Machine Readable Passport (MRP).

So your children need their own passports..

They have needed their own passports for over a year now. also make sure you all get machine readable ones before 26 October (ie with a line with lots of <<>>> marks or you cannot use visa waiver and must have a visa.

Hi Shazbat, the good news is the UK Passport agency are turning applications around in just 7 days, if you pay the "checking" fee at one of their "partners". I have just obtained one for my son, very quick, arrived within a week. The new regulations are in from 26th October, I see you travel on the 22nd, but I don't think its worth it, you might as well get the passports and be sure of no problems. All the passports issued by UK Passport agency contain the machine readable strip at the rear.
Here is the link to the US site re passports

Hello Shazbat, don't quote me but I think you need to send the "parents" passport in which has the child(ren) on. This is so they can cancell the entry on the passport re the child. I think they only cross it out, or remove the entry, but you have to send it with the application. I would ask if I were you. It would only slow the process down if you didn't send yours in.[msnsad]

Mr G is correct on this point.

I recently had to get my son his own passport and I had to enclose both mine and hubby's passports to have his name removed.

If you take the application to the post office and get them to check it it will only cost an extra £5 but they'll make sure its fine and then its guaranteed back within 2 weeks. My sons took 1 week in June.

I got my daughter her own passport for our visit in May, I did not get her removed from my passport, and we had no problems.

Just out of interest did you have your application checked at a Post Office too??

We applied for a passport for my daughter a few months ago, paid the £5 checking fee at the post office and it was still wrong, (we had not ticked a box but this wasn't picked up by the check) so don't rely on the post office too much - double check it all yourself. We did get the £5 refunded eventually.
