Mickey, Donald, Other Disney Characters to Appear in 3-D in New Magic Kingdom Attraction

Disney magic meets Disney music in a new 3-D film spectacular debuting in 2003 at Magic Kingdom® Park at the Walt Disney World Resort.

“Mickey’s PhilharMagic” will star Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and other favorite Disney Characters animated in a way they’ve never before been seen: grand, glorious, in-your-face three dimensions.

The “Mickey’s PhilharMagic” cast will include Mickey and Donald, as well as Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” Aladdin and Jasmine from “Aladdin” and Simba from “The Lion King.”

Set in the PhilharMagic Concert Hall, which replaces “Legend of the Lion King” in Fantasyland, the eye-popping 3-D experience will unfold on one of the largest screens ever created for a 3-D film, a 150-foot-wide canvas. Complete with in-theater effects, the attraction will immerse guests in the richly animated world of the Disney Characters.

The Walt Disney Company has experimented with animating the Disney Characters in 3-D before, most notably in “Working for Peanuts,” a 1953 Donald Duck/Chip 'n' Dale cartoon short, but never on a scale as grand as “Mickey’s PhilharMagic.” The attraction is being produced through the combined efforts of Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Feature Animation.

Great that they are getting a new attraction but what a pity about the Lion King. It is a shame that the parks have to sacrifice old classics in order to get new attractions. This is what is happening at Universal with King Kong as well. Does Disney not have room to expand outwards??

I guess the Lion King's Festival at AK probably in their minds compensated, but I agree they could expand surely but then again - enough walking already!

We were told that Disney have only built on 305 of the land they own in Orlando so presumably there's plenty of room to expand or build a few more parks

I read on an American Disney site that a fifth theme park at WDW is said to be in the planning stages, set to open somewhere between 2004-07, either DisneySeas, Disney's America, Villains, or Disney's Florida Adventure, located between Epcot & the Magic Kingdom.

Hope this is true - so you are right they obviously are keeping the land for something!

I'd love a Disney Villains Park

I don't think my 5yr old would! Can't get her into the "baddies" section in Hall of Fame for a photo with any one of the villains.

Wonder if DisneySeas would not be like a bit like SeaWorld and AK? Then again with Disney it will be different and fab whatever!

I would be wonderful to have a DisneySea. The one in Japan looks absolutely fantastic - I am trying to persuade DH he has to take me to Tokyo to see it but he is not going for it.
I also have to agree that a villians park would be excellent. Lots of scarey stuff would be good - not too scarey though. My kids would love that.

I know Disney do everything so fantastically but could they top SeaWorld with Disney Sea or maybe it would be something completely different. Seaworld still ranks as the whole families favourite park. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm sure most older kids would love a villains park but there's little point in trying to out do Sea World with another replication! It'd be like having a second MK!

We went on this on Saturday and it was fantastic. You are ushered into an old fashioned theater complete with your own set of 3D glasses.

Mickey is the compere and it takes you through all the Disney classics like Beauty and the Beast, Sorcerers Apprentice etc etc – you sit in a theater with 3D glasses on and it’s very well done with gratuitous 3D effects – both the children were sat there giggling the whole way through it. Full of lots of surprises to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Very much recommended :D

When I was at my Cousin's wedding last August we had a great tour guide. She was our Disney tour guide all day!

According to her- Disney has so far built on 1/3 of the land they own. They have to keep a 1/3 for conservation and still have 1/3 left to build on!!! I say BUILD AWAY! As in the famous words from Field of Dreams- If you build it they will come!!

Philharmagic rocks!! It is totally cool! We lined for 50 minutes on Friday for it, cos the parks were still rammed to capacity (and 80 degrees!), but it was so worth it! I did have to sacrfice Peter Pan's Flight for it though, but sicne I have done that before I thought it was a fair deal!!

It was the only thing we got on all day except into the Tiki room, and up the swiss family robinson treehouse.
