We have a Cambridge Audio DVD53 which plays both US and UK DVD's.

We bought a cheap one from Dixons for £30 for our daughter last year which although it never said it was region free turned out to be and plays all her US dvds.

We got a cheap one from Asda, which you have to code to make it region free. If you just search on DVD codes and the make and model of your player on the web, you should be able to find it! Good luck

The Asda ones are quite decent, Pacific 1002/3s about 15 people I know have them and they're all very happy with them :)

Sometime ago, TESCO used to do Wharfdale players for around £70 which were multiregion and considered very good value. I don't know if they still do.

Argos are currently selling Alba DVD players for £29.99. They do not say they are multi-region, but they will play American discs.

Most dvd players are multi region now anyway, if not the cheat code will make them multi region

I also have a Pacific from Asda , think they are under £40 and I couldn't be happier with it. the hack is (haven't tried it yet so I don't know if it works)

press open

press clear

press 1, 3, 6 and 9

press for region 1, 2, 3 or 4 or 0 for multi region

just checking benfilo

if you haven't tried the hack that means you havent played region 1 discs . is that right??

Just to add you must press the open/close button again after entering the last digit (region code)

They play any region without problem if you choose 0 for the region code. I have 3 of the Pacifics, 2 of the original and one of the newer slimline models.

The Pacifics from Asda work ok, but the build quality can be a bit iffy, but for about £30 who cares. If you get a dodgy one just take it straight back to the store. The multi region hack works fine.

That's the one we have - it's great for the money! We bought a Sony widescreen TV & Surround sound DVD player a couple of years ago - cost a bloody fortune. After 13 months, the DVD player packed up! Couldn't multi region it or anything anyway!
We've now set the telly up with the speakers, rather than the DVD player, and the Pacific player is far better than the Sony one, which was over £500 with the speakers! Not always worth spending a lot eh?

I had this offer in my inbox today on a Hyundai from Boots for £39.99 complete with a selection of 50 films, so even if the dvd player only lasts for the years guarantee you've still got the dvds to watch.

forgot that bit [:I] but in my defence you would have to close it anyway. I payed £400 for a Sony that we hardly use now[msnmad]

Safeway are doing a Compacks DVD player for £30 which can be made region free by using the remote.

The problem with out of sync sound is noting to do with region locking but with the encoding used to create the DVD. Generally this occurs with DVD's are from "dubious sources". I have never heard of a pressed legit DVD with this. Are you sure the US dvd's are "proper" legit disc?

thanks every body

if we'd have been running a poll [}:)] pacific would have won

so i went out yesterday and bought one, have only tried a couple of discs at the moment, even the "faulty ones" seem alright

it was region 0 out of the box, the picture quality seems superior to the maxim

am watching sea biscuit at the moment, which rather bizzarely didnt play till i reset to region 1?????

if anybodies interested i will post further when i've gone thru my discs

have got a £1300 denon which i cant get to accept region 1

once again thanks a lot
