We were in Walmart 3 weeks ago - the one towards Haines City on US27 - and they do sell everything from food to jewellry to toys and household stuff. The food looked great with cooked bbq chicken and fresh bread and fresh do-nuts! We spent ages wandering around - you can even buy guns off the shelf - a bit scary really[msnscared]

Yeah we were amazed to see the guns right next to the shelves of car tyres :D
You could always hunt for the pickled pigs trotters, urggh.

The only problem with Walmart is that they sell *too* much so it's hard to not spend loads of money on food, clothes, toys, electronic goods, strollers etc...

Last time we were out there we bought one of their key lime pies. The only mistake we made was not buying two; it didn't last long! [msntongue][msntongue]

"Last time we were out there we bought one of their key lime pies. The only mistake we made was not buying two; it didn't last long! "

Steve
Sainsburys sell a Sarah Lee lemon and lime cheescake which does a very good impression of key lime pie. Not quite the same but an acceptable alternative.

When are you going and where are you staying? Its too late for maths to work out 95 days for me. the reason I ask is that End Sept/Oct the new Wa;mart is supposed to be open to the north of the 192/27 junction.

At least Walmart is one of the shops with something for everyone to look at so you can usually get a bit of time before the children get too bored.

Another great thing about Walmart is that if you buy a major item - eg a digital camera - and you experience a problem when you return to the UK, you simply take it back to Asda (with your receipt) and they will exchange it or replace it.

Walmart is great but not the best place for food shopping, we much prefer Publix as they have a lot more variety.:D

Hi carrie

The publix we used was on the OBT, they had a hot counter at the back where you could buy chicken
ribs etc. They packed it in a box that kept it warm as well. Was great as it saved us having to
cook and was a very good price.

not sure where bass lakes is, but we were in Crescent lakes and the publix was approx 4 miles
away so was wuick to get to and back home with hot food

Hi carrie

Depends where you are staying, there is publix in Championsgate which is almost near most of community in CR57 like Sunridge Wood, Loma Vista communities. Also there is publix in US27 near to junction of US192, very handy if you are staying in Highlands reserve, Westridge and other community near them. I am not exactly sure where is the nearest Publix in US192 itself, maybe someone else can help you with this one.

I second what everyone says about Walmart being great but for all kinds of food it has to be Publix!! Deli to die for, fruit & veg a plenty, bakery's scrummy, fresh fish fab, great choice of meat (fresh & frozen) ...............& some wierd & wonderful stuff that you cant get in UK too. Im already writing my list!!!:D

if you look on www.publix.com you can find the nearest stores to you.

We have 3 within a 5-10 min drive from us at Hampton so theres always one close by whichever direction we are coming home from.

Mind you I've heard good reports about the new Cracker Barrel so that could well be our takeaway from now on.:D

It is the "Super Wal-marts" that sell food.

Regular Wal-Marts do not.

It seems that most of the Wal-Marts in FL are the Super Wal-Marts. Up here in CT, I don't think I've ever seen a Super Wal-Mart, only the regular ones.:(

I second that. Although WalMart do sell food, we preferred Winn-Dixie or Publix for food shopping. But Walmart is very good for most other things and you can easily spend a few hours (and lots of dollars!) there finding things that "you never realised you needed". :)

hear, hear to all the above. When my husband was in walmart earlier this year he wanted to buy some cigars, but found they were all locked away under the counter. He could have bought a handgun more easily!![msnoo]

Publix hot fried chicken portions are much nicer than Walmarts, they tend to be over cooked with very hard batter and dried out chicken.

However!, we found a great Super Walmart just outside Spring Hill coming back on the I-50 towards Clermont, spent about $10 and got a huge bag of lovely crispy but not dry chicken strips, potato wedges and corn dogs, then pulled into a gas station and got enormous (and very nice) coffee & hot chocolates for $1 each, kept us all going on the drive back :)
