Would one of the US residents be able to explain to me what a core return is. The context is that we are ordering something from the US by mail order.

Sure. The "core" is the broken part you are replacing...that they want to rebuild for resale. Most commonly used for automobile parts or appliance parts where you are purchasing a rebuilt part yourself. Generally, if the price of the new/rebuilt part includes a "core return" you will pay a surcharge if you do not return it.

Thanks. Help, that means we have to send the old one back to them!!!! It is a distributor by the way so you were right on automobile parts.
