So many 'water' rides - but there is a way to limit a complete soaking!

Buy an Islands of Adventure rain poncho (they make nice souvenirs and are usually available at most shops) and hope for the best. This is far less fun and you’ll probably get pretty wet anyway. You may have a Disney poncho already so take this with you.

Even better, buy one at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target or even Publix and pay a fraction of the price for the ponchos. No pretty pictures on it, but prices range from $2.50 in the supermarkets.

This is really wimpish. You go on water rides to get wet!! If you don't get wet, it aint no fun and what's the point!! My advice would be to wear something which dries quickly (eg avoid denim) in the Summer. In the Winter, take a change of clothes and leave in a locker. Do all the water rides first and one after the other, have a good laugh at how wet you are, then get changed into dry clothes in the loo.

I agree Julie - what's the point if you're done up in a mac! And boy don't the people on the boat with the water squirters target you if you're wrapped up! If you haven't been on the boat, once you've done the ride head upstairs on the boat and there are free squirters where you can soak other riders as they go through. If they're dense like me, they don't even realise it's coming from above!!!

I'd go so far as to say take a change of clothes anyway, summer or winter, that sensation of walking about in wet underwear just makes your memory bank do a quantum leap backwards - yeuch!!!

Don't look for hot air handriers in the loos to help you out, there just aren't any!

I dunno, Sandra. It's quite nice to get wet in the Summer when its 96 in the shade. You need to wear light clothing which dries out quickly though. One of the parks has hot hair blowers ( is it Busch??) that I've used to dry out with before.

I agree, a cool dowsing in 90degree heat is great, but I still feel awful walking around with wet underwear! Maybe it's because I wear shorts a lot, plus I really am the person who gets soaked EVERY time. So perhaps if we recommend to others to wear skirts! - and another tip, if you see me on any water rides don't sit beside me unless you want to end up very, very wet!!

Totally agree during the summer - but during the winter months, it can feel so cold if you are soaked through and then waiting for the next ride to get wet again is positively freezing - great idea about change of clothes, hadn't thought of that but for the winter months, I'm sticking with my mac!!!

Dont think skirts are a very good idea at IOA, Sandra, given the number of rides that turn you upside down!! Definitely an insecure feeling!

You could always try "skorts", always buy these when I'm in America - just cheapy holiday ones - KMart or Walmart - they are shorts but look like a skirt from the front - and shorts from the back.

I have a fantastic Mickey Mouse pair (Walmart) which are made of a kind of waterproof material and these are great for drying quickly -have to dry quickly though as they go a bit see through when wet!!!!!

I think you should definitely get someone to take a photo of before and after the event - probably make good "caption" material for the forum!!

When on a water ride definatley dont wear anything that is see-through I made this mistake last year(much to my husbands amusement) and had to go buy a Betty Boop top and shorts !! good way to get them to part with their cash though.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Winter in Orlando though is quite unpredictable and on our visit on some days water rides were welcome, but we did spend Christmas Eve at Disney in fleeces and can you believe gloves (Disney didn't miss a trick here, black woolly gloves that you'd get in the £1 shop were $7 near the entrance!!) but then Christmas Day was spent by the pool in our swimgear.

The funniest thing I saw in winter in Orlando was the residents with blankets on the flowers and bushes in their gardens!

We visited IOA over Christmas. I specialise in getting totally drenched because DH goes out of his way to make sure I get the full force of any water that is on offer. I usually end up buying spare trousers and t-shirts in the shops so I am getting a nice collection of IOA gear - most of it totally unwearable anywear else.
I don't mind getting wet at all when its warm but when its chilly and you are soaked to your underwear it is quite unpleasant.
What amazes me is the funny looks you get from other guests as though they don't understand how you got so wet - particularly funny if they are in the line for the ride you're getting off.

I cant believe none of you have advised to take your shoes and socks off on the popeye ride. This is absolutley crucial on that ride otherwise you'll be walking round in squelching shoes all day which is not a nice experience.

Of course you could always take a spare set of clothes and a towel and put them in a locker. Ride all the water rides first - get really really wet - then change and do the dry rides.
I've not actually done this myself (although we always do this for the kids)but I have considered it after spending a day squelching round dripping wet in January this year. Still I really enjoyed those rides!

Hutch, there are signs all over the ride stating that you have to keep your shoes on at all times, so just wanted to add that if people do take their shoes off (I always wear sandals so no worries!), you have to wait until you're out of the sight of the staff or they shout at you over the loudspeakers!!

Some rides have pockest in which you can put your shioes and socks to keep them dry. Usually the raft type rides have these.

Only problem here is that these 'stay dry' pockets are usually full of water!!!

The staff will tell you not to take your shoes off before you get on the raft but once you are on they let you. We have seen this happen, one lady had to put her shoes back on before she went on and then they said to her it was alright to take them off once she was on the raft.

Sorry but anyone who wears a Poncho is a wuss. They also get an extra soaking from anyone manning the water guns.

If you try to board Popeye and Bluto's Barges without shoes, the staff sometimes make you wait in the locker section just off the revolving platform, while you put your shoes on. This gives them the opportunity to allow loads of other people through ahead of you.

Poncho's are definitely for losers !

There's nothing more enjoyable than watching people who have never been on the ride before getting absolutely soaked !!!!!![}:)]

I have never understood the point of going on a water ride with a poncho on!! Kind of defeats the object of the ride dont you think?!!

Tatally agree the whole point of the water ride is to laugh at every one getting a soaking. I made a big drama out of choosing my seat on Popeyes for minimal drenching....there is no good seat everyone gets it at some point and while your sitting on the wall wringing out your socks you can giggle at every one dripping as they are coming off
