View Full Version : love bug season
I visited Orlando last August and the place was filled with love bugs. Has the season started yet ? I arrive again next week ? My kids hate the things even if they are harmless.
What are love bugs - whatever they are they sound awful - We are out in mid August I hope there isn't a speciality bug for our trip!:D
Andrea
They're not awful at all, just annoying. They are really slow flying bugs which fly whilst they're mating (hence the name!).
There are two seasons for love bugs - May to early June and (usually) September to October. It really depends on the weather conditions but you're not likely to find any in July.

Are they the same as what we call 'Ladybugs' in the UK? They're rather cute.

The first year we had our hut tub.......we would sit in it in the sun room......and watch the fireflies.........we had thousands in our garden that year......it was like having fireworks every night......
We had one in the bedroom the other night.......and it lite up the room....

Think they were a bit earlier this year as we were out in April and the little rampant things were all our pool screen[msnscared][msnscared]

We seemed to go through clouds of them while driving to Cocoa beach last time. They were a pain, we had to close the car windows PDQ. Still before this post I had no idea what they were called "Love bugs" my first thought was VW beetle conventions [msnsmile]

we were surprised at how few there were in May this year-so looks like we missed them if they were out in april!
Still managed to get a very nasty mozzie bite though!
Still haven't had the insurance money back for it yet either!

Poor you.......:(
Do they bite..cus that would make you walk funny for the rest of your holiday......[?][:o)]
No, they don't bite, they're far too busy doing other things. [:I] They just fly really slowly and get all over your car (it's the devil's job getting the splatts off the windscreen!) and bump into stuff as they're not really concentrating on where they're going!
Not after i,ve launched the b****** into the air with a nine iron, they dont.:D<blockquote id="quote" class="ffs">quote:Originally posted by chrizzy100

It sounds like your work PC is set not to display graphics then. You can change it using Edit and Options (if your boss asks, I didn't tell you this!).

they are why you see 'the locals' car bonnets (or is it hoods) have aprons on them at the lovebug season!
I agree that they are not a loathsome problem, just annoying,[msnsmile]

Picture looked fine to me too John!:)Well apart from the fact they look quite evil little things in your pic![msnscared]I remember them being a bit of a pain last April, while buying our place actually:D:)[8D]Don't think they were harmful though[?]Question. Why do you have a picture of them John[?]I know taking photos of the kids on rides can get a little tedious if you are lucky enough to have been a few times, but a bit David Bellemy[:p]
Good pic all the same!!!:)
A little useless information on Lovebugs....
I was talking to someone back in 91 on our first trip to florida, the conversation got onto lovebugs, apparently they are a designer bug, from one of the universitys in the USA to help overcome the Mosquito problem. They are a hybrid of a couple of types of bug that were made into a new strain to eat the mossie lavae and reduce the population.
Well that's what I think the guy said......
You'r right they are most annoying, but do not bite.
So now you know.... or don't.

Urban Legends are stories that are told by someone to someone else who tells someone else....and one day they become true......because a friend of a friend had it happen to them.....
Just type in Urban Legends in yahoo etc.......and you'll get loads of sites........
