View Full Version : My Travel: Premium Seats worth it?
Anything paid the extra for the premium seats on the My Travel flights?
Just wondering if that or the extra legroom (£70pp) is worth it?
Thanks
Personally anything that gets you out of economy on a My Travel flight has to be worth it. We flew economy to Cancun last year and it was very cramped.
lol
we did as well In Septemeber, didnt think it was too bad. But as we're going over to get married this time i wouldnt mind a bit more comfort.

We flew Premium with MyTravel last August and flew Economy with MyTravel this Easter. Would definately go for Premium. More legroom and seat width, think the seats were leather. Extra film and seat back tv's. Free drinks incl alcoholic.

I can't understand why people are so bothered about leg room and seat width when the airlines seem quite happy for people to walk around and stretch their legs from time to time.
I can't do that-I have to sit there for 9 hours-but am still happy to be in economy and spend the extra money in Florida.(Although I never refuse an upgrade if one is offered!)
I could understand it-if like me everyone was tied to their seat.
Puzzled?
james,
do it .............we flew in may and upgraded at the airport for £90 each. we were so impressed that we upgraded the return flight as soon as we landed!!
pluses - you dont have to be checked in until 30 mins before departure, slightly more baggageallowance?, first onto the plane,champagne/ orange juice as you sit down, free drinks, bigger more comfy seats. biggest plus - your bags will come off the plane first. we were bagged up and customed inside 5 minutes with car keys in my hand when we flew into sanford - unbelievable. on return, 1 person in front of you in queue. 45 minutes before flight. only waited about 10 minutes before being boarded first etc [8D]

Trev,
So glad to hear that My Travel have changed to champagne/Orange juice as you sit down, when we travelled Premium economy 18 months ago it was Cranberry juice and Vodka cocktail! Also the baggage handling was a joke, the premium luggage was the last off the carousel and the My Travel rep told us that the promise of priority baggage handling wasn't worth the paper it was written on. If you also got the car you ordered and paid for as well, without an hour of arguing, maybe I didn't waste my time writting umpteen letters of complaint that I thought had been ignored maybe they were too busy putting things right to have the time to thank me for all my suggestions [msnwink][msnwink]
Thanks for the help.
Think i will go the extra, gettin married over there so the extra luxury will be a good start.

We had the same experience. We upgraded on the return flight from Orlando and when we arrived at Gatwick ALL the bags with the Premium Economy tags on them came off last - not just ours!! It was well worth the extra money for the comfort and extra leg room though.
Congratulations on the wedding James :) Hope you have a wonderful day and honeymoon. When do you get married?
looks like we were lucky!. i'm sure your flight will be just fine jimmy.good luck[8D]

Thanks everyone.

We have just returned from Olrando
We flew with Delta from Manchester to Atlanta to Orlando
We was upgraded to Business elite Free Of Charge due to a friend pulling a few strings.
This was my first time in Business Class and my god did we feel the difference.
FULL Reclining Seats, (ELECTRIC TOO), Free FULL Bar Service, 5 course Meal, served by course and not all at once. Fill steak !! honest.
I have no idea how much it would have cost for an upgrade but it would have been a little more that we could or would have paid. We have always flown economy with the toddlers, and always found it acceptable, if you can afford it then it has to be worth the money. We had gone on our own this time so it was a real treat for us!!
Each to there own!!

James remember to file a trip report when you get back and let us know how everything went. Some wedding pics would be great too :):)

As a comparison an economy flight Man-MCO on 01 Aug costs £756. A full business refundable fare on the same date is £4,498. Although a non-refundable fare can be had for a mere £1,551.
I read somewhere that Bill Gates refuses to fly anywhere 1st class (and the same for any executive in Microsoft) as it is such spectacularly bad value. Mind you he has a private jet!
Much as business class is nice, it is difficult for most of us to justify spending that much of our own money for better meals and better seats.

The prices are daft for business class, but its a necessary evil as the money the airlines make from business travellers, helps keep regular scheduled prices right down. We'd all be paying a few hundred quid more per trip without the posh-lot-up-front.
Having said all that, went to NY with Virgin Premium Economy and it was superb. Top deck of the jumbo, tons of space and we even managed to slide in unoticed into the stand up bar area in first class. However, coming back we were on a 777 and it was not worth the extra money as the seat formation was the same as in economy and we had to sit in the middle of the plane.
If I was in your position I would do it as the larger seats are nice. We sis last year when we flew to Florida. For this type of larger seats in Virgin/ BA you would be charged much more.

PAY FOR IT!! I travelled once with them and it was so cramped i found it extremely traumatic with two kids. I'd never travel with them again, however with extra leg room might be another story.
