ive just been on to virgin and booked karen a spicy hindu meal for next week.[:p][}:)]
that should stop her complaining about a tasteless veggie option:D:D:D. i think i'll save that treat for the plane[msnwink]
i also metioned about my hernia op and poorly belly:(. (clearly any operation is worse for the male of the species):D. they have given me a tel .no. for special assistance dept. on monday morn. i will see what they have to say, but am considering paying for a premium economy upgrade on the way out.virgin said i need to speak to my agent
my question is - as we booked via a broker, (closed now today)who apparently purchase the flights up to a year in advance.presumeably they would only have the economy seats that we have been given, so has anybody else upgraded broker/travel agent seats actually when checking in? and if the broker can do it ,what would you normally pay to upgrade at the airport?

As far as I am aware Trev you can pay to upgrade any seats at check in if they have upgrades available.:)

Trev, we have always booked PE upgrades at the airport and only once has it been full. You do take the risk of not being able to do it if you leave it till your at the airport but if its your only option, just make sure you get to the airport early.

Trevlad - Do check this with Virgin before you get to the airport. I had a nightmare with Quantas last November when I flew to Aus. To cut a long story short; I was booked through a small sports tour company who ticketed through a major travel company. I wanted to upgrade my outbound flight to club but could I?? Tour company said they had no available club seats left corresponding to my fare class ... try the bigger travel company. Travel company wouldn't upgrade a ticket that wasn't theirs. Quantas' call centre said the best option would be to upgrade at the airport. Quantas' ticket desk said, get this, that even though there were seats available in club they couldn't offer me an upgrade on a ticket sold through a different agent. They could sell me a whole new ticket though if I wanted, for about the equivalent of a villa downpayment. How dumb is that? It's their flippin aircraft and they can't sell an upgrade to someone waving a credit card at them saying 'sell me an upgrade'. If I were a Quantas shareholder that lost revenue would make me mad. Grrrrrrr. [msnmad][msnmad]
Hopefully Rosie is spot on and Virgin are a bit more sensible than Quantas; but I would make a couple of calls first to keep your options open.
Give Virgin a call and ask them for a price to upgrade. If they start their answer by saying, 'Ahhhh; you need to call xxxxxxxx' then I'm available for counselling sessions at a very reasonable rate.

Virgin charge £50 for the seats near the exits - this can be done at check in if you get there early

Just to clarify Trev, none of our original economy tickets were booked with Virgin but we had no trouble upgrading at the airport if there is room. We always book with a broker or travel agent for better prices than Virgin charge for the same thing.
can anyone remember roughly what it cost to upgrade - 3 adults , 1 child

We upgraded in June and it cost us £329 each, each way. It depends on your ticket though, we had the cheapest tickets to start with.
just make sure that the ticket you have brought ,is upgradable
some tickets have loads of restrictions on them

If you give me your flight numbers I will check and see what seats are available on your flight. I have access to a tool that lets me see what seats are open.
