View Full Version : whats the weather like at the moment.
[msncool]Hi
Will be going to Orlando on Friday, its our first time and I am
just wondering what the weather is like at the moment.
I love the sun and was wondering with all the thunderstorms would
there be much sun, and if it is cloudy can you get a tan??

Just got back, its blooming hot !!
Temperature touched 100 degrees on two occasions last week in Kissimmee, but the humidity was the killer.
Generally, the pattern of weather was clear skies in the morning until about 11am or Noon, then the clouds would bubble up, so partial sunshine in the afternoon before the thunderstorms and rain would appear from anywhere between 3pm and 7pm. Most times they would rattle through quickly, other times hang around for an hour or so. Does sometimes make evening planning a pain, but we managed to do Epcot and Seaworld in the evenings without problems. But it can be pot luck.
In three weeks, we went 5 days in a row without any rain when they were forecasting it. Generally the local TV stations forecast rain at 50% chance for up to 5 days ahead, but that generally comes down to 30% for the actual day.
We both got nice tans, but as I said before, the humidity can make sunbathing very sweaty and sticky, so regular dips in the pool/shower were needed to cool off. Best tip, sunbath early in the morning if you can, its very hot from 8am onwards.

Its ok when you are moving about in the Parks because all the shops and rides are air conditioned, but does feel like the heat "hits you" as you go outside. Same when shopping at the malls etc.
I noticed it the most when sunbathing as it did feel like I was cooking a bit, but I'm not a great sunbather at the best of times (too much of a fidget) Where we were, there was hardly any breeze, but the villa had quite high walls around the pool.
Drink plenty of liquids and take regular breaks. To be honest, I would be surprised if anyone apart from very regular sunbathers (or naturally dark skinned) could lay out in the Florida summer sun for more than 5 hours straight. A couple of hours was the most for us, followed by a dip in the pool. The water-rides at the parks are also great for cooling off.

Anna.
We live here. Right now it's hot and humid. In the 90s by mid afternoon. About 2pm is when the thunderstorms start to happen. It's just blind luck if you'll get wet or not. By 4-5pm they are at their worst. If you are at the parks and a storm hits just find some cover and wait. Usually they take around 30 minutes to either move off or dissipate.
You'll get a tan!
If your dad hates humidity do what Keith says. Drink lots of water and use the air conditioning! My wife is from Ohio and is still getting used to the humid air. Wear lose clothes. Don't wear long pants!
The best times to play is in the morning. Right now (7am Florida time) it's about 78dgrs.
Have a great vacation.

I know it's an obvious one, but as a long time expert sun seeker, I still got caught out the first time I went to Florida, because I found I was tanning(burning in fact!) in what I thought was a cloudy period[msnembarrased]Also, I have found the creams for sale in Florida more affective! THe rain and humidity can be a bit of a pain, but use the foracasts as best you can because the great thing in Orlando is there is so much to do, whatever the weather picks to do [?]No perms in the group I hope[msnscared]Nightmare!

I'm going to be interested to see if the humidity feels as bad as it does on the Cape....its been very humid on a few of my visits down to FL.....but I've never felt it much.......its been at 100% here on the Cape for months at a time the last 2 summers......you need a shower after walking down the path to the mail box..........its not to bad if the temp is up in the 90s.....the sun sems to burn away the wet feeling a bit....but when its in the 70s.....its a nightmare....
We've had a great 3 weeks of 72 degrees and no humidity....a cool fresh sea breeze every afternoon.....its been beautiful.........with clear blue skies leading down to clear blue seas....:D:D

Came back on the 21st after 3 weeks, every day was the same: during the day it was 95-100 with daily thunderstorms around 1700hrs when it lashed and I mean lashed. Typical hurrican season weather. Plenty of time during the day to get a tan and do the parks etc. Shop when it rains!

[please DM George] and I will forward a URL link to a great weather site. I have it in my tool bar. 92 at the moment in Disney, wind SSW at 4mph....its got the lot. next few days etc etc
[website link edited - please DM Amy]
have a look on here it shows the weather thought the coming weeks in all areas of the states.
Personally I love the feeling when you walk out of the terminal building for the first time after arrival - the doors open and it just hits you! Something special about that as you know you've arrived... usually very sweaty within a few minutes.
However I have always found that you get used to it pretty quick and it becomes the norm. Obvious advice is of course watch the exposure to the sun during the hottest periods - common sense but we have all seen people who have underestimated the sun's intensity.
A little over a week to go before those doors open for me again... [msntongue][msncool]

It's been hot every day but also most early evenings there have been rain showers, which I'm grateful for because it's cooling. Sometimes TOO hot! Especially when you are hunting for a home like me....not always good to be sweating when you're under pressure!

Ana...You can buy little portable fans ( battery operated of course) that you can carry round with you when walking anywhere but generally if you are shopping or in the parks you just keep nipping in and out of the rides and restaurants.
We have the little fans but very rarely use them, you can also buy thee fans that spray water out as well as cooling you.
Are the fans with water any good?
It wasn't hot enough for one in October but we go in two weeks and thought about giving them a try. Are they a bit weighty?
The fans with water aren't bad for a quick burst of refreshment. Just remember to buy one in Walmart as they're half the price of those in the Parks (unless you want a souvenier).
I find them best on the head, back of neck and back of legs, but that's probably just me.
I'm OK when walking around, its when I stop that the heat really kicks in.
In Universal, I put some ice-cubes in my baseball cap and let them slowly melt down my head. It felt wonderful for the small time that it lasted.
