We are staying overnight in the Hilton at Gatwick, anyone know of
a local pub within a taxi ride that we could go for a meal and a
drink rather than spend the night at the airport

Hi Chrisj,

There is a pub, but I can't for the life of me recall it's name, outside the airport on a road adjacent to one of the runways. we used it for the same purpose a couple of years ago and sat there watching the evening flights taking off. You can also get a reasonable meal there.

Sorry can't be more help[8D]

Chrisj,

The pub that sits next to the runway is 'The Flight Tavern' in Charlwood Road, Lowfield Heath.
For excellent food try 'The Gatwick Manor' about a mile away from the Flight Tavern on the A23 toward Crawley.

Both are only 10 mins away from your hotel.

Enjoy your trip..

Hi Chrisj
Just asked my sister as she lives just outside Crawley and these were her recommendations.

Hillside on the Balcombe Road, Shipley Bridge, Six Bells in Horley, Gatwick Manor, Flight Tavern.
We've eaten at the first 2 and they were both really good.

Hi

Try Horley like the others have suggested it should only be about 5 - 10 mins. walk from the airport Train Station. We have booked a B&B in Horley the night before we fly and have been told there are quite a few Pubs, restaurants there.

We're staying at the Travel Inn (North Terminal) which apparently has a new bar and restaurant "The Slice" or something like that... can't vouch for how good or bad though as we don't stay there until next Friday. The food last time (before the changeover) however was pretty good.

Well Janny & I are meeting Patti tonight as she is en route to Florida and will either be eating at the Flight Tavern or the Copthorne Manor, so we will report back!

There is a Wetherspoons pub in the south terminal. on the first floor in the shop area. McD just a few yard away.. Good beer and food at reasonable cost. We also go there for breakfast after checking in at the desk. There is an internet cyber bar five yards away at the front entrance.

The Flight Tavern was excellent and I fully enjoyed meeting two wonderful people with their daughter..The pubs around Gatwick are so cute and I enjoyed and got a thrill driving on the other side of the street.

Make sure you have directionds to find it as we certainly took the scenic route!

Good pub food - don't order the mushroom stroganoff if you expect it to come with rice - it doesn't! Just a plate of mushrooms which was a bit odd, but v good for the atkins diet. (We won't mention the 2 G+Ts then!)

I definately recommend the Flight Tavern in Lowfield Heath on the road towards the BCP Car Park. It's frequented by a lot of Gatwick workers, so that proves its' popularity!
