Hi

I am going with a group of friends to Orlando next year. We will be visiting the water parks Wet 'n Wild & Blizzard Beach and possibly others. One of my friends can't swim very well at all but he still wants to go on some of the rides.

Are there rides that don't end in splash pools? And if they do end in splash pools is the water shallow/deep? (He's 5ft 10). He's particularly interested in Bomb Bay

Will he be able to go on many rides?

Thx for any help.

Can't say anything about Wet n' Wild, haven't done that one, but Blizzard Beach is pretty good for non-swimmers. There isn't much in the way of deep water there, so at 5ft 10 your friend should be pretty safe. And there's always lots of lifeguards around to ask for help/advice.

Typhoon Lagoon on the other hand has a huge bay area which is pretty deep, add on to that 10ft waves and you get the idea, not ideal for non-swimmers.

Hi ahO

Well, there's plenty of time for your friend to learn, then it doesn't matter what rides he goes on!

It's always a good thing to learn to swim as it's like learning to ride a bike and you never forget how to do it. You never know when it may come in useful in the future.

Get your friend to ask at the local swimming pool about lessons - there are usually adult learners there so no need to feel embarrassed and the teachers are usually very experienced!

Have a great time in Florida!

My mom can't swim but manages to do the following at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon - the inner-tube lazy river ride around the edge - as long as we go with her, she is fine just lying back and enjoying being pulled along.

Often goes to cool off at the edge of the wave pool - a walk in pool so goes up to her knees!

Often seen sitting in the little pool beside the wave pool, in her deckchair with her feet in the water, glasses perched on the edge of her nose reading her book.

Family raft rides - her biggest worry is getting her hair wet from above! But these rides whilst quite fast aren't deep water and no-one ever fell in so far!

She doesn't do the slides as you end up in a deepish pool but does all the above and sits at the Tiki Bar without her armbands!!

It's the bar that is in the middle of Typhoon Lagoon where you can sit around and enjoy cocktails, beer or spirits - the kids can play nearby while you have a well earned margerita!

You'll need your ID as they are VERY strict and I have walked to it to get two drinks once and they refused me the second one as they couldn't see the person I was buying it for, understandable as stops underage drinking I guess. Was actually two for me to save me walking back but didn't like to admit that one!
