Does anybody know if there are any customs limits as to how much cash you can legally take into the US as a tourist.

i seem to have memorys of the visa waiver card asking if you are carrying more than $10,000 but i cant be sure of the exact amount.im sure u would be fine carrying up to about 5,000 as when i was on holiday with my family we had around that and there was no problems.

It is $10,000 and, as far as I know, per person! Except that the US Customs calls it monetary instruments which I take to mean travellers' cheques, cash, etc, etc.

Even if you have more than this, you just need to bring it to the attention of Customs and fill in a form.

I think that the $10,000 limit is per family, but that does not really matter as all you have to do is tell the custom and immigration officer how much you are bringing in. If you are bringing in money to top up your US bank account remember that any deposit over $10,000 is reportedvia the banking system to try to stop money laundering.
