Florida has a fair number of storms, particularly in the summer months and the lightning can be dangerous.
If there's a lightning storm:
Stay indoors or in your car if you're out
If you're in the car, pull over as the rain usually makes visibility difficult
Everyone knows the one about not sheltering under trees - don't do it!
If you're in the open, crouch down to make yourself as small as possible
Don't go near the windows indoors to watch the lightning or stand in the garage with the doors open
Don't go in the pool as water attracts lightning
Don't use the telephone while there's a storm
Turn off the TV and any electrical appliances
Don't use a computer
The electricity often goes off during a lightning storm - it will come back on later
If there are any bangs outside, don't go out to investigate - wait until the storm passes
