Hi, Like alot of people we are thinking about re locating at the moment, although unlike most people on here we havent fully decided on an area. My question for this forum is........I am a qualified social worker, specialised in Child protection, adoption and fostering and child and family work. Can i use my English qualification (Diploma in social work) to practice social work in Florida? My husband is a HGV driver. We have four childre, Harry aged 1, Emily and Jessica aged 10yrs and Joshua aged 14yrs.
My second question is..............we have a son (aged 1) who has a very rare condition which involves alot of seizures, he needs phsyical therapy, occupational therapy etc, would we get insurance and would they cover these additional needs.
We would be grateful for any info you can give us.
:D

I think you'll find your sons condition could make it very hard to get insurance.......you maybe able to pay a large amount to insure him.....or you'll have to pay his costs out your own pocket.....healthcare costs even with good insurance is one of the biggest reasons people pack up and go back to the UK after moving here.......

I use sites that has many link about about moving to the USA....if you like I could send them to you in DM......

In this kind of work, you would be working for the Florida Departmnet of Children and Families. Website http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/ess.
The only reason I know this is that my firm cleans one of their big service centers!! You could email them and ask if they would accept a UK qualification. Remember for a work visa you need either aBachelors degree ( not a diploma) in the field or 12 years experience and you will have to go through labour certification,
Insurance will be expensive or they may exclude the childs condition from the policy,

I'm new here so just bear with me if this isn't in the right place. My hubby and I just bought a rental home in Florida and loved it so much that we are planning to move there. My hus is a Qualified Accountant and I am trained Accountant with a Bachelors's degree. I'm interested in knowing the right agencies to contact in order to find the right job. My hus is not keen on working for the accounting and auditing firms coz he was one of them for too long and is tired. Hope someone can help. thanks.

You need to check whether your qualification is valid anyway. Someone told me their accountancy qualification isnt transferable. To get labour certification, you would need to be doing a job for which they cannot find an American. I think it would be difficult to get this if applying for a different job than the one you have done all your life. There are a lot of small business owners and villa owners who need accountancy so you could consider the business route if your qualification is valid hete.

Because it had a link to home rentals Andy. You can ask for them to DM it to you if you wish.

I never noticed the single posting for a rental home it just struck me as a bit strange that the link had been edited for a site that gives out so much good info

I posted an answer for you on the Visa thread about this.

esprit

I was told TEN homes by a reliable visa attorney ( ie not a TV programme). If one of you gets the E2 by themselves ( ie not 50% each) then the other can apply for dispensation to work which will come in in about 3-6 months. I would perosnally not consider a small management company if you are doing it as a woman on your own and your husband will be working full time elsewhere. Management is a two man business. You need to do small maintenance jobs which are hard to subcontract out as no-one here wants to do a little job, so they pretty much have to be done in house. Unless you are any good with a screwdriver, your husband will be working all day, evenings and weekends too. You might consider something like a little shop, window treatment business etc ( sorry if that sounds sexist, you may be a handy DIY woman as far as I am aware, just a thought!!!)
