As you enter MGM check out the waiting times for rides on the tips board. Then you can plan your day around this park. It also gives you the parade times that day and other useful information.

And, to remind you when you've left that area, don't forget to keep the map and show times you were given when you entered! :)

MGM is the smallest of the Disney parks. It fills up quickly and does get crowded. Get the popular rides like Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster and Star Tours done early on via fast passes. Remember you cannot get a new fast pass until the previous one has expired. When we were there in May, fastpasses for the Rock n Roller coaster were all sold up for the day by about 2 pm. Then in the afternoon when it is busier, do the shows. The only one of them that you need to fast pass is Little Mermaid.

We usually head for the TOT and RNR corner and ride both several times - using Fastpass of course and queuing in the other line. Once we've had an hour and a half there we move on to the rest of the park. Most of the rest of MGM is pretty manageable until lunchtime using Fastpass but this corner gets very packed quickly.
Oh and you really don't want to be milling around here when fantasmic exits as the huge crowd just swarms out beside TOT and engulfs everyone in its path.
