October is prime time school holiday period, which means the flights are usually more expensive.

You are probably more likely to get a good deal if you can go September, when all the schools are just back.

Isnt the half term the end of october as we have had a booking for this period for ages so just presumed it was? Unfortunately september is not so convenient due to schools.

Our school holidays start on the 9th October for 2 weeks in Scotland. As these dates are usually booked up fairly quickly, parents often take their kids out of school the week before. After the Scottish holidays, the English ones normally start, so basically the whole of October is holiday time and the airlines cottoned on to this pretty quick.

We have just booked to go 23rd October and have paid £1550 for 2 adults and two kids to fly from Manchester to Washington then onto Orlando with BMI and United. This was by far the cheapest i could get. Other wanted nearer £1800. They did offer me Glasgow to Iceland and onto Orlando for £1600 with Icelandia air (or something like that) but it would take me 4 hours to get to Glasgow. Dont know why October is so expensive. We went a few weeks ago (half term) with American Airlines and with the same passengers it cost £1300.

i'd heard that mentioned also chris.
i initially was irritated - change and all that, but it will make plans easier to make and could increase higher rental weeks.ie easterweekend- fortnight and also schooleaster holidays

good if youre selling, bad if youre holidaying[8D]

I have the Kent dates for the next 4 years, the only problem is that in a few years time the Easter 2 week holiday will be no where near Good Friday and Easter Monday. So you will get those 2 days off go to school for another week and a bit and then get the 2 weeks off.[msnoo]

I think it is going to get confusing.
