Any big King Kong fans here!! Well, sorry folks but after 12 years he is packing his bananas and heading for the hills on Septmeber 8th to make way for a spectacular new ride!!! Annual passholders will be able to attend the final commerative rides held 6-8pm on 6th, 7th and 8th September and will receive a free gift. The park will be closed to normal ticket holders during those times. No indication of what the new ride will be or when it is likely to open have been given.
Went on King Kong recently. It does look a bit old hat now and the monkey looks very fake but it is a bit of a classic. Nostalgia, anyone???

Oh no! We love(d) King Kong and he is (now sadly to be shortly was..) the largest animatronic puppet in the world! We love(d) the graffiti in the line area for the ride and graffiti artists were flown in specially from New York to ensure that it all looked genuine.

Next week will be a very sad day in our household! <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

Do you know what the new ride is supposed to be and when they said it will open. Since we'll miss the closing of KK, we might as well wait for the new ride to visit.

Any idea what they are replacing King Kong with Julie?

No, I discovered this on Universals website when I went on to check out the Halloween Nights site. It is on the whats new section along with Macys Thanksgiving Parade to be introduced for Xmas. If you email customer services, they may tell what the new ride will be as they have alwsys replied to emails I have sent in the past. Everyone in my household was sad about this. It is a classic ride and though I do realise that Universal needs new rides to attract repeat business and do not have the space for expansion that Disney do, it is a shame that newcomers to Orlando will now never experience it.

I read a rumour elsewhere that it is being replaced with a 'Mummy' ride. As far as I know it is quite a good source though.
Sounds like another thrill type ride.

Could well be Angela, as the Mummy was a Universal film and they did have a display of props and costumes from the movie on display for a while. Wonder if it will be inside a big pyramid? Oh and there were lots of beetles and things in the movie. Scary ride I reckon!!

I hope Universal aren't going to go too far with their new ride, whatever it is. Universal is one of the few places where I can go on just about every attraction they have. I am hopelessly prone to motion sickness, just reading the warning signs starts me off!

Jewell, how do you get on with Back to the Future. I don't normally have a problem but after a couple of rides I get quite queasy.
I am hoping it will be something a bit high-speed to match some of the rides over at IOA.

Angela, let's just say I've done Back to the Future once!!!

Too jerky for me, I can see what they mean about people with bad backs/shoulders should avoid!

Even though it's motion sickness I have a problem with, I'm sure a lot of it must be in the mind, because I don't feel quite as bad if I know I'm on terra firma!

That's why I still say at Islands of Adventure there should be two rates for entry, one rate for those doing the rides and one rate for people like me, who hold the cameras/sunglasses/wallets etc., who wait for the others to ride!

I agree Sandra, there's a limit to how often one can look in the Betty Boop shop!

The latest rumour is that it will indeed be a 'Mummy' ride. It has been compared to Disney's Rock 'n' Roller Coaster but where riders will wear 3-D helmets. The word on the street is that it will rival Spiderman for special effects.
Sounds absolutely awesome and I can't wait.

Sandra,

Have you tried some of those wrist bands from Boots that are for travel sickness? Don't know if they'd work, I keep meaning to try mine. they work really well when I'm flying in light planes with hubby. No more can he call me Captain Chunder<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Haven't thought of that Jacqui, suppose the problem would be to test them out I'd have to do one of the rides - gulp! Might give it a go, I do get lonely waiting for my family ride after ride.
