View Full Version : An identity for your hire car

I've put this on before, but as it was ages ago thought it was worth bringing up again.

Buy yourself an aerial topper, those plastic novelties you can buy to put on the top of your car aerial. Be as silly as you want, that way you'll spot your car easily!

Put it on your hire car aerial along with some ribbon, or bright plastic strips to individualise it, and you'll be able to pick out your own car with ease when you come out of the theme parks or shops.

We found this invaluable advice last time we went to Disney as we forgot where exactly the car was parked (we knew the vicinity of the car only). The bright pink ribbon floating in the wind at the top of our arial was visible from a distance .

Glad to hear it was useful John!

We visited California a couple of years ago, and there is a fast food chain called Weiner Shnitzel (excuse the spelling). We have never tried their food (they do hot dogs mainly), because I know what they do to animals here for veal! But they do have a fantastic aerial topper, it's a hot dog in a long roll, with arms and legs and a worried look on his face - they call them 'antenna weenies'!! So when we visit Florida out comes the hot dog for our car aerial and I can honestly say we haven't seen another one there, which is crazy as their food outlets in California are as common as McDonalds!

At Christmas time I think we were the only car with x-mas winnie the pooh stickers in the back window. Somehow we managed to find it without any trouble!

We had the usual chrome car and only way we could find it was head in the right direction and click the key fob and thankfully the boot opened!! We'd have been there for hours some times!

Definitely remember your car reg, it sounds silly now but it won't when you get there.

Most car hire cars have the vehicle registration on the key ring. Very useful for remembering the number. Either that or take my daughter with her, it's one thing she is good at remembering.

Does anyone know where we can get a Mickey aerial topper? We've tried absolutely everywhere (including Disney) but don't seem to be able to find one at all!

You can get lots of the Disney stuff you forgot to buy yourself on Ebay. There seems to be several sellers who live near the parks and regularly sell new merchandise for a dollar or two markup.

We had a minnie hat ariel topper on our car, went to MK, came back and it had been pinched. Not buying one again.

Friends of ours, were parked next to a vehicle and the trunk kept springing open. Concerned that the car could be broken into they kept shutting it, a short time later the owners of the car returned, they had lost their car so kept pressing the boot/trunk open button on the key fob to identify where it was located!:D:D:D

We always take a few strands of Mardi Gras beads to wrap around the inside mirror of the car, and usually throw a copy of the Orlando Sentinel on the back window. The only time we've ever "lost" our car was when we spent an hour looking around the parking lot at Epcot, only to realise that initially we had parked at the Magic Kingdom and then taken the monorail to Epcot !!! Chris...what are you like???

I know I lost my car once at Belz. Took a whole day out to do shopping as it was absolutley teaming it down with rain. At each annex I drove to, I loaded the boot up with shopping. Then, at the last mall, I'd forgotten completly where I'd parked, but was sure I knew where I was (if you know what I mean).

The heavens where open, and the rain really coming down, and there's me running up and down the parking lanes, carrier bags up to me elbows. I remember thinking at the time, that I was so worried about all the shopping in the back of the car going missing, than the car itself. I really though the car had been stolen.

I eventually found it though, and had probably walked straight past it like 10 times!!![:o)]

The big Disney shop at Downtown Disney has them. We bring back loads of them! there are at least four different types. Your basic head in black; ditto in red white and blue; graduation head and a Christmas head with antlers. Anyone know of others we've missed?

Hi, I have a mickey topper which is a pumpkin with Mickey ears! It's great! Have to say, I had the normal black one on for about a year, then my graduation one for another year and now my pumpkin, and even when I've parked in central London for the day they ahve never been touched!

Touch wood!

Hi Tink,

My car in the UK is sporting a rather seasonal disney ariel topper. Instead of ears there are bat wings. We purchased it at the Haunted Mansion, we originally bought it for the Voyager here in the UK as we had forgotten it has an integral ariel[msnscared].

I have to say that the tip about personalising your hire car though has proved invaluable trip after trip.[msncool]

Definitely! Wow I have to look out for one of those when I go at xmas! Although, my car has only one aerial of course, so I'd have to choose between the pumpkin and tha bat ears!!!
