Lake County has more than 1,000 named lakes, and many have improved public access. The Clermont Chain of Lakes is located in southern Lake County. This chain is a popular fishing area and the large, undeveloped marsh provides excellent wildlife viewing. The Ocklawaha Chain, often referred to as the Harris Chain, lies in central Lake County. Natural creeks, canals and locks interconnect the individual lakes. Boaters can launch in any of the lakes and make their way downstream into the Ocklawaha River to fish for bass, bream and crappie.
