This November, whilst standing in a very short line for the Haunted Mansion, our son was commenting on the howling wolves. Standing next to us were a couple of firefighter from NYFD. Our little boy turned to them and said, 'Don't worry it's only [pre]tend' One of the fire-fighter's replied, 'Gee thanks little guy, I was beginning to get scared then'

If there's one attraction at Magic Kingdom to be wary about with younger children, it's "Alien Encounter". I don't want to give it away by saying what happens, but you definitely do not want to bring in children that will easily scared. It is NOT a friendly scare like the "Haunted Mansion"!

Where abouts is Alien Encounter? We must have missed that one last time we were in the Magic Kindom?

I have to say that our 3 yr old, didn't like the Snow White ride as it is in the dark - many other little ones came off crying too, then again this is the same 3 yr old that would only go up to Mickey and wouldn't comtemplate hugging any other character but they do grow out of that.

The first time we went to Disney I naively thought that the characters walked around all day - a bit silly really as the heat wouldn't allow it. Therefore, if you do see a character strolling around and signing the all essential autograph book and having pictures taken, then it's worth the short queue as you may not see them again later in the day - they all pop up somewhere - you can get info from each park about times of appearances. The Hall of Fame at Toon Town usually has three or more characters to see throughout the day.

Alien encounter is in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom.
I haven't tried that one myself, but hubby and the kids didn't rate it!

I didn't rate Alien Encounter and nor did DH. My 9 year old said it was boring but OK. We only let him go on it because he said 'nothing scares me'. And it didn't, sigh. IMO it would scare younger children though. I think you need that teenage mentality - wanting to be scared but not being scared if you know what I mean - to enjoy it.
