Hi, This question has probably been asked before and I appologise for asking it again. We are looking to move to Clearwater and buy a small hotel to run as a business. What Visa would I require and how easy is this going to be to obtain? The business is around $2,000,000 so pritty substantial. Also we want to take our children, all boys ages 13, 16 and 18 what if any would the problems be here. Finally my 16 year old son has is heart set on a golfing career how close is the nearest gold course to clearwater?
Thanks all in anticipation.

Hi.....well the one problem I can see is your older boys.......kids time out on parents visas at 21.....they really need to have a greencard by then.....so the younger the children the better....it can take years to get a greencard if ever with some of the visas.....our lawyers had to work really hard to get ours through before my daughter hit 21..... your kids will need to do very well in School and collage to be able to stay here in their own right after 21 if you have a visa that does not lead to a greencard.....I've heard that can cost a lot.....so make sure you have money for collage.....
One of the ladies here has a son...and they are on a visa that does not lead to a greencard......I'm sure she can tell you of any pitfulls if you take that route to move here......

I wonder with a business that size whether it might be possible to get your 18 year old on the same visa as yourself so the business is bought in the 3 names. I have no ides of whether it is possible but I am sure there must be cases where businesses are bought as joint investments by non related parties so logically dont see why it couldn't follow that he would be legally an adult and able to be a business partner. I've never seen anyone mention if they have asked immigration experts and the reply but would be interested to find out.

Obviously it would also depend I would imagine on how you are funding the purchase of the business. If you are planning a loan etc for a major part then that I wouldnt think would qualify.

The other question, not trying to be too nosey is your set up at the moment, with such a substantial investment do you have a business here already? If this is the case then it may be more beneficial to set up a branch of your existing business and then transfer yourself over, you can then evnetually apply for a green card. Until such time as you get the green card though you must be able to prove that the existing UK branch is still running at the same level it was before you moved.
Still not much help in knowing which visa to apply for but without knowing specifics its difficult to say.

Thanks all for the above. I have just sold my business here in the UK and we now seek a new life, we have been considering our options and country's but keep coming back to Florida, although this seems to be the hardest country to get into. If we proceed with our busines purchase in Clearwater (and its a big IF with Visa's) we would fund the purchase from our own funds so no loan would be required. I thought by investing a considerable sum into the country may help our application, although I do need to make sure I'm tackeling this in the correct way. Any further help would be grate.

There is a thread here on it of you search. Basically it requires an investment of $1 million or $500,000 in an area of low employment in a US business employing at least 10 people. It leads straight to green card but isnt easy to get,

With that amount of cash to invest I would get myself a specialist attorney who will tell you exactly what is what.
