Evening all,

John, Sarah is that a new loggo at top or have I been researching this holiday on-line for too long and my eyesights gone? I digress!
The reason I have been doing all this research is because my Husband has MS. Our first job was get in touch with specialist travel comp. Bad move! They came back to us with a quote for the flight this being £500 per adult & £300 something for kids & over £100 for baby!! It's the same seat whether your disabled or abled!! Anyway thats not why I'm here. As you may have realised I decided to 'Do-it-myself'! On this relentless search (children been neglected, nobody has had decent meal for 3 wks) I got to the accommodation bit and although he has mobility difficulties doesn't use a wheelchair so really only needs large walk in shower & level access & the Owner not minding if we hired a showerseat. We have got all that but the reason I'm here is just to ask all you owners if you could describe the bathroom facilities in more detail or think about whether a moderately disabled person could get about. I think you may get some bookings out of it. I searched constantly and if the Villa didn't have bathroom details I just scrolled on. Most of the one's I missed probably did have the facilities but I will never know. Hope you don't think I'm being cheeky but never realised how difficult it was to book this sort of trip when you a disabled traveller!

You must have all fallen asleep by now (yawn)!! Sorry.

Actually Lesley, despite us running a bathroom distribution business here in the UK we don't make much of the bathrooms in our blurb - aprt from stressing the number of them!

I think you will usually find that at least 1 of the bathrooms will be a large walk-in shower, and certainly any villa owner worth their salt will be only too happy to extol their villa - just watch us!

In our case, we have 3 bathrooms, 2 of which are en-suite. One of our bathrooms has a large walk-in shower, and I certainly couldn't see any problems with anyone hiring a showerseat. I am assuming you have a contact -or would this be something we would have to locate?

Our other 2 bathrooms have the following:

1 with a roman style bath with shower overhead
1 with a low step-in bath with a shower overhead.

All the bathrooms have hollywood style mirrors (in my case all the better to notice the grey hairs with!) which are very helpful when applying make up. The 2 master bathrooms have walk-in wardrobes.

Our villa is a one storey villa with a step up at the front door and a step down from both the patio doors - one from the living room and one from the back master.

We don't have grab rails in the bathrooms but from what you are describing that wouldn't be necessary.

Hope this is of some help, and as I say - just ask the owners whose villa you like the look of. We're only too happy to expand on things. I find I try not to put too much in our description as some people get bored trawling through and one villa starts to look like another after a while!

Hi Whitequeen

Yes it's a new logo - it went live earlier this evening :)! What do you think of it?

We have a 3 bed, 2 bath villa with one of the bathrooms being en-suite with a huge walk-in shower (if only we could bring it home with us <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>). The other bathroom has a shower over the bath.

The villa is all on the same floor with no step at the front and perhaps a 1 inch drop to the patio by the pool at the back of the villa. We too are fully equipped with Hollywood style mirrors - the one in the master bath goes right across one wall!

The villa also has wide doors so if we had a guest with a wheelchair they should be well catered for and could get about with no problems.

We don't have grab rails either but from the description you provide your hubby would have no problems at all with our villa bathrooms.

Thanks all,

It's very nice John/Sarah but I'm sure it keeps winking at me!!
You're all very kind and I do have accommodation booked now. I hope nobody thought I was critising Owners, I wasn't. All the disabled accommodation web-sites have very few listings and they are usually for wheelchairs and charge extortunate prices! Which makes me cross, my husband & others didn't choose to be disabled. If you list your amenities in greater detail I am sure you will get a few extra customers. And I know a few of the disability info sites are crying out for more suitable accomm. to pass on to their members.

I am greatful to you all.

Thanks
Lesley

Hi Lesley

Why not post details of the disabled accomodation websites so villa owners can advertise their villas there and focus on the appropriate facilities to save others the long process you have gone through?

Hi all,

Thanks for that Boo, have actually been in touch with them and another company called CareMedical who I think also deliver if anyone is interested.
The disabled Web-sites I have dealt with the most are www.youreable.com and their sister comp. in US www.ican.com I have been in touch with the person who runs the british travel forum and explained what I've done (Jane Gray). As for advertising I'm not sure how that works, but I'm sure they'll give you the info.

Thanks all for taking the time.
