View Full Version : sawgrass mills excursion
Has anyone been to sawgrass mills at Fort Lauderdale.
Our may holiday is coming up and are staying at Weston Hills community near disney. We go out to orlando twice a year so know the area well and my husband handles the driving ok but sawgrass mills is a bit of a hike so does anyone know if an day excursion is available from the orlando area.
Also what do people think of sawgrass mills as we have heard good things about it but have never been
Thanks
Nina

I take it it's a mall? Is it related to GrapeVine Mills in Texas as we have been there and it's HUGE. The areas are grouped into "Neighborhoods" so you can find your way round as you would get lost otherwise.
The other one that springs to mind is Potomac Mills just south of Washington DC which is part of the same group and whilst not as big as Grapevine (everything in Texas is bigger) is still HUGE.

Hi Nina
There is a website www.sawgrassmills.com
You could try contacting tourism director sawgrass@themills.com They may know of organised trips from the Orlando area.
It's so big I got a migraine going round it! Give me Premium Outlet any day, but my gals managed to find something to buy. Would I drive all the way down from Orlando when I had a selection out outlets to go to? No, but if you are in the Miami area it is worth going to. You will be there all day! Be about 3½ / 4hr drive to get there.
Flew into Miami & stayed overnight so we were refreshed for the journey to Orlando next day. We decided to stop at Sawgrass Mills for a quick browse, left about 4 hours later. There was a sports store in the mall can't remember the name but every hour on the hour they would bring out a rack of different items and everything on the rack was $2.00 or less. Picked up some great bargains. Definately worth a visit if your in the area, but I certainly wouldn't drive down from Orlando just to shop there, not enough hours in a day to do that!

I remember Potomac Mills in Washington DC, we went there when I was about 12, I have not come across anything quite as big yet!!!

Nina,
This a 400 mile or so round trip.
There are far too many stores to see in 2 days, never mind one.
IMHO, there isn't anything there so different as to justify a special trip - especially a day trip.
Dave
Thanks for all your replies. I have emailed them to see if they know of any excursions. As a few of you say the drive is long but we do like to shop. Maybe we might have to give it a miss this time and maybe go in septemeber or next may.
Visited Sawgrass last week when in Miami a full day plus is needed to do it justice it is enormous.

Sawgrass is very big and a good day out if you are around the area. but to travel for the day, well it would take most of your shopping hours getting there not worth it
