I've finally found the ultimate bargain in Flordia real estate.

There's been several ads recently in the local paper for burial plots. Expect to pay about $1000.

(It appears that there's no agent commission to pay!)

At those prices it could turn out to be a big 'undertaking'.
It could turn out a good price in the 'wake' of the existing market values.
Are the plots in the 'dead centre of town?'
'Stiff' competition from other owners.

The developer has a 'turnkey'option.
They include a headstone package!

Don't rush into it or the consequences could be 'grave'.

I suppose you get just the bare bones accomodation ? The locks are always a problem best to take a skeleton key. However if you stay there you always leave in good spirits.

Epitaph

Here lies a good (although small) villa
The wife is still there but I didn't kill her
there is no pool or grass to mow
and being 6 feet under the rental rates are low
It is to small to have a party or rave
and if you did your mother would probably turn in her .....

I see than one poor chap could not even afford a cheap burial lot in Orlando and put his father to rest in a self-storage facility at $70 a month. He bought a plastic shed from Walmart to put him in.

Apparently, the average funeral in Florida costs $6000 -- or $1000 to be cremated in a cardboard box.

No doubt another round of dead pun humour will follow this news.

No, I'm not going to joke about it as I've recently been bereaved and I also used to deal with bereavement in my job. Anyone who is that desperate gets my sympathy not my jocularity. Unfortunately, not everyone in Florida is on vacation there with money to spend.

It costs quite a bit of money in the UK too so $6000 sounds relatively cheap as a top price. $1000 to be cremated also sounds pretty cheap in comparison with the UK, particularly if you take into account the current exchange rate.

I think a lot of people get desperate when someone dies who hasn't got any insurance in any country when they find they can't afford a decent burial or cremation. Which is how come people without money or insurance in the UK are either buried in an unmarked grave or cremated and it's paid for by Social Services after deducting the sale of any possessions the deceased left. The welfare state is supposed to be from the cradle to the grave and that's unfortunately exactly what it is in some cases.

Sorry to hear about your bereavement Blott......[msnsad]
Its also very hard to find a plot in the USA.....people buy plots as gifts.....you walk around here and see a lot of stones with birthdays on....but no death dates......it can be spooky......my daughter takes pictures of unusual graves......but she hates seeing thoses kind......
