Hi, me and my partner are visiting florida (kissimmee) in 3 weeks for 10 days and as we both don't drive we were wondering how difficult it will be to travel around, with out relying too heavily on transport...does anybody still walk around in this area at all? or will we be having o rely on buses, taxis etc. Thanks for any help!

I think we answered this before for you Iveste on http://www.orlando-guide.info/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7518

You very rarely see people walking along the streets apart from around the International Drive area as this is one of the busier hotel districts.

Have a great time in Florida.

I have asked before but i'm now interested in actually walking to places instead, for example walking to disney instead of catching the shuttle or walking to nearby restaurants. We're in the masters inn at main gate...any help?

Iveste once you get to the main gate at disney there is at least a couple of mile before you reach the transportation centre or entrances to the parks (with no pavements) so walking is not an option. On paper it seems feasible, I often walk 3 miles at home to our town centre and think nothing of it , takes about 20 mins , but the distances are just so huge, when you get there you will appreciate it but until you have been it is very difficult to explain just why it isn't practical. This is also why we tell guests not to worry about being somewhere that says for instance 10 mins from Disney as opposed to 15/20 once you are in the car that extra small distance is pretty academic really and only means an extra couple of minutes.
Along the 192 you will be able to walk around the area at Masters Inn at Main Gate so eating and shopping should be within walking distance but for all the attractions and water parks you will need transport.

There's also no footpaths along those roads inside Disney-quite a lot of them are dual carriageways-so it would be quite dangerous.

Imagine if you stayed to see the fireworks and by the time you got out of MK it would be 10pm, dark and with no pavements-and such huge distances you could be wandering round lost for hours! (You can wander around lost for quite some time in your car -if you're not careful-till you get your bearings!)

Heaven only knows what critters you could stumble across!

I think you will have real problems - what about taxis? It seems to me that nobody but nobody walks anywhere in Florida[msnsmile2]

We have friends that do not drive and they actually hire a driver.

I am sure that this is done through a tour operator though!!

If you are not wanting to use Transport, you better take some comfortable shoes!!
