Hi Guys,
I have been reading some of the threads on car hire and i was wondering if i am likley to get pressurised into buying extras once i get there.:( I have booked my car through this site and have taken out the Gold option insurance. Is this everything that i will need or will the hire people try to tell me i need extra?
Also we have booked an 8 seater for 5 adults and 2 young kids (9 & 6). Do you guys think this will have enough room for our luggage (4-5 cases) I am expecting the eight seater to be something like a Ford transit with windows!!:D Am i right?
Many thanks
Mack [8D][8D]
The Gold option should cover everything and you shouldnt need any extra
Dont know about the 8-seaters, we hire a 7-seater and even though the luggage space is a bit tight
its only from the airport to the Villa

You have got everything you need - if they start trying to sell you an upgrade just say no to them. I usually say something more direct like "are you trying to tell me I have not thought what car to rent properly" - seems to work every time as they immediately back down [msnwink].
Mind you when you hand over your voucher, it should show them that you have all that you need.

Very true Chris - they never seem to try it on with me now - I must look like a regular or something [msnwink].
I took the car back without putting petrol in in January (we were not on Gold cover so you have to take the car back with the tank full). She tried to charge me $38 for a tank of gas but I said I would not be using Dollar again if they did this (I mentioned I rent from them once a month on average - slight exaggeration). She immediately reduced this to $17 which I was happy to pay [msnsmile2]

Hi
I think an 8 seater might be a bit tight.
We we went as a group of 8
4 adults and 4 smallish children we hired a 15 seater this was great and even then with all the luggage it was full.

All the reports I've had back from our guests who have booked car hire through OV have been very positive, and no one has reported being asked to add any extras at all.
On our advice, a future guest who wanted to book a Virgin fly drive took the OV price list down to Thomas Cook, and asked for flight only prices and then added on the OV car hire costs.
He phoned me to say that our referral would save him over £90 on Virgin's flydrive prices, and that Thomas Cook told him they couldn't match the OV car hire prices !
He's thrilled, I'm happy and John & Roger deserve a huge pat on the back ~ thought you'd like to know guys :D

Thanks Chris [msnsmile2]
We've cut down our comission to a very bare minimum so we can pass the benefit on to the bookers which is as it should be.
When I hired our 7 seater, their price was way over this sites and so they price matched which meant
they dropped their price by just over £100

Obviously we'd rather you book direct with us rather than just use us to get a good deal elsewhere Chris [msnwink]

I know Chris - I was not having a go at you or anything - just making things clear for anyone else reading the thread as we do not want them doing the same now we can take a deposit for the car hire [msnsmile].
I agree and your deposit is very good, shame I missed it by a week or so :) but oh well

Whenever I have booked car hire through this site regardless of which airport I flew into I have never been asked or perusaded to upgrade, the same goes for my guests who have used this service, one of the reasons, along with the incredible prices, that I am happy to recommend them.
I normally go for a 7 seater and have always found it adequate for space, given that the only journey with all the luggage will be to and from the airport I am sure an 8 seater will be just fine.

Thanks very much for all your replies guys, its very reasuring for a "newbie" like me. Especially when i am taking a fairly large group and they are all relying on me to get it right. I dont know what i would have done without Orlando Villas.
A big thankyou to all the organisers and keep up the good work. :D:D:D

Hi Big Mack.
If you're booking with Dollar, you'll be fine even if you do get it wrong initially. The guys and gals on the desk are in a sales position so WILL probably try to sell you an vehicle upgrade but there is no hard sell. They certainly don't try to sell you extra insurance etc.
I'd organised the car hire through this site and had booked a Luxury vehicle with the Fully Inclusive Option. We decided to upgrade the car as we had a long journey to North Carolina coming up and I do like my comfort and Hubbie, his "bells & whistles"!;)
Unfortunately the upgrade vehicle fell short of our expectations and we returned to Dollar the following day, explaining our position and asking to return to our original booking (something like a Chrysler 300M). This was no problem at all. The desk took us back to our original booking from day one of our rental and didn't even charge us for the fuel we'd used. They also gave us a brand new Lincoln Town Car for our trouble!:D
Would I use Dollar again? Without doubt!
Just a note on 15 seater vehicles. I had one booked for July (with the company used by this site) and have been told that the florida law has changed from April and the max that can be used as a rental car is a 12 seater. We are going to struggle big time to and from the airport as there are 12 of us in the car! Anyone know the cheapest way to get a taxi from MCO? I expect that they are more expensive if picked up from the airport so would rather book in advance.

Would two 7 seaters be a lot more money?
Claire
Yes, it would cost a lot more - and it means more designated drivers after nights out! It's only the airport that will be a problem, so it seems a shame to hire more cars.
The issue with 15 seaters has just officially come to light. A new Florida law now prevents any car hire company offering the 15 seaters, as when they are full to capacity that have a tendancy to roll over, and there have been a lot of accidents.
Dollar are now offering 2 smaller vehicles (eg a 12 seater plus a smaller vehicle) at no extra cost to anyone that has already made a booking.

All of our car hire sites have now been adjusted for this as we have literally only found out about this new law ourselves!
I'm getting my car from Dollar (through Floridacarhire) and they did not offer me this option. They said I'd have to pay the extra cost if I wanted another car. I think I'll phone them again!
