[:)My husband and I, and our 15 year old daughter, are planning to move to florida,we intend to buy a propety in the Kissimmee area.
Is there anything I should know about before we apply for a green card to work and live in Florida, do we really need a lawyer?
Are there any English people, now living and working in Florida, who can advise us on the pitfalls/hurdles we may come across, regarding buying a property outright, and the application for the green card.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

How are you getting your greencard......job offer....etc..people would need that bit of info .....to see what you do next......[msnsmile]

We had a company lawyer doing all the work for us.......so I have no idea how you do it yourself.....or even if you can......
We have a second home in FL...if you're buying outright you should hit very few pitfalls..credits hard to get when you first move here......and you need very deep pockets......money just flies out the window for the first few years......

Green card. Very difficult to get and takes years. They are currently considering applications made in 2001!!
Why do you think you will get one? Do you have a firm offer of a job here?? Are you in a specialised occupation such that there is no American who can do your job and you think you can get an American company to sponsor you? Do you have close family who are citizens of the US who would sponsor you??? Are you a qualified nurse or physiotherapist? Are you a Phd who was written and had published papers in your field? Are you a famous person such as an author or film star? Do you have a minimum of $500,000 to invest in a business in an area of low employment ot $1,000,000 in any other area? If the answer to all those is NO, on what basis are you thinking of applying for a green card? You will probably be scrabbling with the the rest of us for a visa not a green card - E2 if you buy a business, L1 if you have a business in the UK and can transfer yourself out. The latter leads eventually to green card but after years, the former doesnt. Buying a property in Florida doesnt get you a green card or entitle you to live here.
Do you need a lawyer? Yes eventually but I would need to know the basis for your applicatiom before I can recomend as they specialise in areas.
Pitfalls and hurdles. Yes. hundreds of them. Not in buying a property here but in moving here to live. You may have been here on holiday but it is different living here. The bureaucracy, no credit rating, the expense, missing things you thought you never would. On a visa your daughter could be deported at 18 unless she goes to college. Even if she goes, you will pay International Students fees. Things like that.. It isnt quite as easy as it looks....
