A bit off topic, but don't know where else to ask.

We are looking at a place in Florida, kids would probably prefer Orlando/Kissimmee, but I love the gulf coast. Is there any lake swimming/beaches where you can swim/snorkel/dive in natural surroundings?
It might provide a compromise.[msnsmile]

Plenty of lakes you COULD swim in, but you will need to avoid the other things potentially swimming in there as well such as alligators, water snakes and snapping turtles!!! I would say your best bet would be Typhoon Lagoon or Discovery Cove. Both have un-natural beaches that look natural and nice places to snorkel. I personally would not set toe in a natural lake in Florida!!

I agree with Julie and would not go anywhere near a natural lake for swimming purposes!

Every time I'm out in Floida there is a story about someone losing a limb or WORSE to an alligator! Last time a teanager who ignored his parents warnings swam and lost his life in a natural lake - and he was a local!

Stick to parks and villa pools for swimming!

BEWARE - You will not get done for swimming in the lake but you will get prosecuted for attempting to feed an alligator!!! They are partial to a good takeaway tourist!!!![msnoo]

I posted a reply to this but for some reason it hasn't showed up.

You can swim in the Blue Springs -just north of Orlando on the I4 near Orange City-it's signposted.

There are alligators-but guards keep an eye on them while people swim.
