Can anyone tell me if the PS2 games in the states are in a different format to UK ones ? Thanks Steve
We got some last year and they work fine on Sam's and they were very cheap :D

In theory they shouldnt work as they use ntsc format in the states and in Uk it is pal,so I am not too sure why Chrisj has found that they work ??

You would need a 'chipped' PS2 in other words it will then play PAL(UK) and NTSC (US) games, think you can get this done at computer fairs.

Chrisj must have a PS2 with a mod chip fitted, otherwise the games wouldn't work.
Chipping is illegal in the UK, although you can buy the mod chips and get them installed all over the place.
The good news is that the Spanish courts recently judged in favour of the consumer's right to alter their games console (i.e. install a mod chip) as it is no longer the property of the manufacturer.
If this spreads around Europe, the day may come when regionalisation of games (and DVDs) disappears completely.

And so it should.
I can understand with Cinema reels as there are only so many but not DVD's, Games etc.
As should the banning of grey exports from within the EU.

Dont think ours is chipped, I will check tonight when I get home. I have chipped our
DVD for Multi Region, but havent touched the PS/2, Sam never lets me use it.

We have friends who bought a PS2 game whilst in the US and it won't play on their UK PS2. Someome else we know had their PS2 chipped and was then advised it was more likely to go wrong as the laser is so sensitive.

Ours all work fine and have done for some time.
Can confirm ours is chipped and has been fine
Although not the PS2, Microsoft have done things to discourage X-Box chipping by having software on their X-Box Live service that recognises and bans chipped machines.
PS2 doesn't have that sort of on-line service at the moment, but they're going to roll one out when they release the PSX later this year, so if you have a chipped one and fancy on-line gaming, beware as they may include the same kind of detection.
There are ways round this, but obviously thats all I will say

I have recently got a ps2 and the people in the shops advise you not to get your ps/2 chipped for it may break the console however the english games dont work unless chipped. I am jeffs son jack...

That info is wrong, Chipped PS/2's do not cause problems, the issue is the companies dont
want you to buy your games abroad where they are cheaper,

Well, we are also thinking about getting Game Freedom Pass from BlockBuster, so out guests can be able to take out any game, new or old, for any system for free. But the problem would be having them return them to Blockbuster.
Will UK purchased games work if taken to the US and played on a US bought machine?
