We have been a villa ownener in kissimme for one year now. I am sure like many other brits have now toyed with the thought of moving to the US.

I am a registed nurse but it would take 18 moths to go down road to taking US exams with a lot of hard work. So we have thought about buying a business.

we have lots of information on buying a business but!!!

What we can't seem to get a clear answer to is the true cost of health insurance and what it covers
we are 2 adults and 2 children
and would we have any chance of getting cronic conditions covered
ie i have asthma and my husband a tummy problem
We would't mind paying for diagnostic tests but its the unforunate time if ever you were sent to hospital with these problems I worry about.

can anyone please advise us
thanks
ann

Health insurance is dear. We pay $100 per month each, are reasonably healthy and have a $5000 excess!!!!!! With no excess, at our age you are looking at a lot of money. My son is ashmatic and at 18 his insurance was not much less than mine non ashmatic but in my early 50s!!

DONT BUY A BUSINESS!! You are a nurse and that will get you a green card. Buying a business never will and a lot of what you buy here is dross. Good businesses dont tend to get sold as they are making their owners money!!!!!! 18 months hard work to take ther exams or a lifetime of hard work running your own business, never able to retire because if you stop working they throw you out!!! If I were a qualified nurse, there is no way I would be here doing what I am doing.

I'd take the nurses exams....they are hard...but I think worth it....also you should get good cover if you go to work at a hospital.....we never got asked any questions about health because the company is paying not us.....I would think that would happen if a hospital took you on....I'm not sure what would happen with your husband......I could not work until we nearly got our greencards.....that was 2 years ....my daughter also could not work in that time......but that maybe different from State to State....

Thanks for the information!

Has anyone else got any further views on this subject?

How on earth do the people of the US retire and pay for health care?

Thanks
Ann

The rich ones are fine, the poor ones tend not to retire and you see them working as greeters or in similar in Wal-Mart and other places. Huge swathes of the poor ones never have access to any healthcare, unless it's provided by their employers, as it's just too expensive.

You dont retire, they just prop you up in a toll booth!!
There is medicare, but only if you have paid it for eighy years and are a green card holder. We have to pay into it and will never be able to clain unless we get the green card!!
18 months to do the nursing conversion. It can tale that long to find a decent business, or longer.
