All the companies are sort of the same, they offer the same car range for the same or similar
price. If your after renting a car I would suggest this site as Ive found them to be the cheapest and they use Dollar which we have used and found them to be fantastic.

At the top of the page click on the Car hire and get a quote, I think you will be surprised at
how reasonable they are. I found out too late for us, but oh well thats the way it goes sometimes

We have used Alamo and Dollar.

Personally I prefer Dollar, newer cars, and pick up in the terminal car park at Orlando Int Airport.

Thanks for replies. I have already had a quote from above link and several other places and yes, they are the cheapest. Alamo came out the cheapest but only by a few pounds and that was with one driver. Dollar was next and that was for two drivers. We have only been to the states once before and I didnt drive, perhaps this time I should have a go!

You say that you can pick the car up from the airport now, is this correct? Last time we had to go on a bus to pick the car up.

I just tried it, wish I had known about it when i booked, I could have saved £200+ on a 3 week hire of a 7 seater mini van!

Next Time.

Yes all the companies are now based at the airport which is great

Much easier now as you literally only have to go across the road to the car park amd pick up your car. We have always used Dollar and have never had a problem with them. We tend to pay for an extra driver just in case or an emergency, if for some reason Ray couldn't drive it's always best to have a back-up we feel.

the service on this site www.uscarhire.co.uk takes a lot of beating. we made a booking friday early hours of the morning for a car to be picked up mid day in orlando.. everthing worked fine and the price was right...

I have used yescarhire.com on several occasions and had no problems at all. I find them to be one of the cheapest and the vehicles have always been fine. No hassle airport collection too, we usually like to fly into Sanford (quicker to get through) as you can be half way to your destination by the time you get through Orlando airport.

Sounds like you went for the Gold option Chris?

chrisj
29-02-2004, 01:15
Its the option with another driver and a tank of petrol, they price matched your site, but
at the time to book yours you had to pay the full amount, which I couldny afford.

Then a week later you introduced the £25 deposit you bad man :D

LOL - you must have booked ages ago as we have had the deposit option in place for ages now.

Hi Rob
I just checked them out they're almost the same price as yescar with the %30 off, that's with the exchange rate as it is.
Has anybody had any luck trying to haggle with these companies they may match or beat each other?

chrisj
01-03-2004, 01:28
I didnt haggle as such, I just told them the price I could get it elsewhere and they
price matched, so I spose I won, will have to wait until July to see

I have always being very luck when getting a car
We usually just get the free car on a fly drive and prepay the insurance and when we get to the airport just have a good moan at the guy at the dollar desk and nine out of ten times we get a free up grade
It doesn’t really mater the time that if we don’t cuz there is only three of use but I wouldn’t recommend this as its very touch and go especially if there it more than three of you in your party as to pay upgrade cost at the airport usually cost more than pre-booking

Speaking of dollars, is it possible to get a quote on this site in American dollars rather than pounds, since I am a Canadian and generally understand the conversion better, also would be paying in American dollars. Can you help me John and Sarah?

May I explain the two and now, three consecutive postings? I'm new and I hadn't noticed I had to go to page two to see my posting, so I sent another.

I just discovered that if you return your car empty or less than full to Dollar (when you are supposed to return it full) you are charged $5 a gallon, yes $5 a gallon. How does this work out compared to what you would normally pay to fill the tank? Well I returned a car thinking that I had chosen the option of returning it empty. I had filled this car from almost empty at least 5 times while I had it and could not get more than $40 of fuel in the tank. Returned the car to Dollar and was told no I had not chosen the return empty or prepaid for a tank of fuel. The car that I could not get $40 into now needed $160 to fill it according to the guy at the Dollar counter. $160 I kid you not. I told him I had filled it x amount of times, $40 max and his reply was this was Dollar policy and price. I told him I could get gas almost anywhere for around $1.60, his reply was I still had time to take it out of the airport and fill it. I got a little annoyed with him, explained every car I had rented from Dollar was with the option of returning it empty. To make a long story short he eventually accepted $65 after discussing it with a supervisor. He said it happens quite a lot with tourists. So check it when renting.

I'm afraid we only quote in Pounds Sterling but you can get a current quote of the exchange rates at http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/m5?a=1&s=GBP&t=USD

Hi Philip

As I opened this small can of worms I feel I should answer this.

The UK sights will quote in pounds and bill in pounds, as per floridahire above. The only way you can get billed in dollars is buy a product from a US based company.

If the company is based in the US, then they can bill in dollars....you will still pay in sterling regardless because your credit card company, which is UK based, will convert any foreinge currency bills into sterling at a day rate the decide on.

Just like buying anything from another country.

Yes - you will be billed in Pounds but this will be converted to your local currency (Canadian Dollars I'm assuming) by your credit card company at the rate in force at that time.

We have used both Dollar and Alamo and they are both more or less identical. They are both now based at Orlando International. Alamo has had a desk there since last year.
