Hi,

Could someone please let me know whether or not Space Mountain goes upside down or not. Jamie can't remember, and as I am not keen on Roller Coaster (especially those that I can't see)I wouldn't have a clue.

Thanks.

Hi Lesley
I was FINALLY persuaded! by our kids to go on Space Mountain and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. It is dark, but you can see, it's a bit like walking outside at night with no streetlights, only moon and starlight, I'm sorry I can't remember if it went upside down, but I think I probably would remember if it had!

I've never gone on it, I suffer from motion sickness, but my family (hubby and 3 children) love it, and I'm reliably told it doesn't go upside down!! It's basically a roller-coaster ride in the dark.

hi, thanks for your responses, the reason I was asking is that we thought it might be alright for our 4 year old, but not sure. We didn't want to put her off going on Roller Coasters.....she does enjoy Splash mountain and Thunder Mountain. Also was wondering if I was brave enough to go on the ride.......I don't like Roller Coasters.

There is a height restriction for Space Mountain, 44inches/112cm, don't know how tall your 4year old is. I know the height restricion for Splash Mountain is less.

Well I can't do these rides at all. Splash mountain would be lovely if you didn't have the bit at the end!!!!! Thunder mountain was alright first time, after that I felt I was getting thrown around too much.

Family keep trying to persuade me to go on Space mountain and say I will enjoy it - I think that's what they said about splash mountain, so I am not being fooled again!

I thought Space Mountain was very tame when I went on it and I don't like roller coasters. Couldn't understand why the 2 women in the back behind me were yelling so much and making all that fuss. Now the Montu and the Kracken - yuk, they are bad.

Space mountain does definitely NOT go upside down - although I still can't convince my daughter that is the case...

I'm in the hating roller coaster camp as well. I can cope with the splash type ones but even runaway trains are a bit too much for me. I was put off by going on Indiana Jones and the temple of doom in Disneyland Paris. That one does go upside down and I got awful whiplash and bruised a vertebra, totally ruined the holiday - never again.

I'll never know, because you won't ever get me on either of them.

Space Mountain does not go upside down and I love it<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>My 6 year old is tall enough to go on but my 4 year old is not. However I would not let either of them go on it yet anyway as it is in the dark, and you sit singly with 3 + 3 in the car, not side by side. Therefore you can't hold onto them at all. I would guess that they need to be 7 or 8 at least to be mature enough to cope with this ride.

Thanks for all the comments, I may wait until next year. She might only just be tall enough when we go in December (or maybe July).

Okay, so my posting above was totally inaccurate[:I]. We were at the Magic Kingdom today & Harriet (age 5 years 2 months) found out that she was tall enough to go on Space Mountain (she had about a cm to spare) & decided she wanted to do it. So we got 4 fast passes & went back at the correct time. Hannah (age 7) then bottled out and decided she did not want to go on (she wouldn't do splash mountain today either). We also had James (2 years) with us so did a baby switch. Wayne took Harriet on & I waited with Hannah & James. When they got off Harriet had loved it so much she wanted straight back on so I took her on using the baby switch ticket. Then, as soon as she came off Wayne took her back on using the other 2 fast passes:D. So she rode it 3 times within about half an hour and would have kept going[:0]So anyone with a fearless child, if they are tall enough to go on, let them:D

Talking of size, I'm 6ft 4inches tall, and Space Mountain hurts as it throws you around its twists and turns.[B)]

Space Moutnain is basically Thunder Mountain in the dark, it is intensified by the darkness, but you can actually see stars on the ceiling, the track and other cars with their reflective strips. I went on it well before I ever took the upside down plunge and had no problems at all.

Maybe a little adult for kids? When I was younger I know it was the fear of the unknown but once you go on once it's never the same apprehension!!

A couple of times we have taken the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Ride, and have seen Space Mountain section fully lit and undergoing maintenance. It is the most amazing structure, and of course as luck would have it, both times we have never had a camera to hand to snap it !:(

A good tip if you are tall, is not to sit at the front, as the car narrows, and there is less leg room.
