I envy you being based in Dublin when it comes to flight prices. I'm seeing lots of sub-£400 fares to the US from there which can't be anything like matched from UK airports.
I like your idea but it might help to know what most people would regard as a 'good deal' these days when fares seem to have risen so much.
Cheers - great idea...changed title so fingers crossed I could find a good deal :)

For us anything around the £450 mark is a reasonable price these days, we went for £415 last May and thought that was a good deal. Most of it is the taxes and fees so we would not expect to get less than these prices now.
Most of the time they are up in the £550 - £600 price for us now.
Lets hope they do a bank holiday special this year we managed to get our November flights last year on the bank holiday for £505 each.
I will post if i see anything

Our flights for Sep/Oct this year with VA worked out at just over £500 each - using some miles and a 'free companion' seat - not free at all as you pay more for the initial seat and taxes for the companion, but we were happy with that. I usually hope to get around the £500 mark out of the peak season and maybe a bit less in January.

I think around £500 for Economy is probably a reasonable price (I remeber when we could get all 3 adult flights and the car hire for under £1000:) We have paid £850 each for Virgin from early Dec returning from Boston just before New Year but that is PE so we considered that quite reasonable, same flight is now showing £1200 and still that price for April. I think their sales are often in September.
Do let us know if you "spot" a sale..;)
From Ireland at the moment we can get Virgin ...DUB-MAN-MCO for 550Euro and to upgrade to PE is only 250Euro extra. That's roughly what we paid in June so must be failrly standard price.
Could be worth travelling to Ireland, cheap hotel overnight perhaps and then starting journey to Florida from here...just a thought

You can also go BA World Traveller Plus DUB-LGW-MCO for under £700 which is around £400 less than flying just LGW-MCO. When you consider a party of 4 people the savings are really very significant. All to do with UK taxes of course.
Last week I saw DUB-LHR-LAX return next year on BA or AA Economy for £335 or World Traveller Plus for £745.
There are flights advertised on Thomson going 30th August for £407 and a few more after that still in the lower £400 bracket. Ideal if you can just pack and go!!

Worth a look...but I'd have to sort accommodation ;) or do a hotel for a change. Still, might be useful to some on here
We've done the DUB-MAN-MCO with virgin and then on the way back MCO-MAN, we just didn't do the last leg back to DUB.
No problem at MCO requesting bags only checked thru to MAN :)

Lots of lovely owners on here Carol with some great last minute deals!!!! xx;););)
You can get some great last minute deals with Thomson, we only paid £250 each when we went in May. You do however normally have to pay extra for luggage (they were offering it free when we went) Thomson only fly between April and October.

Probably the only good thing about living here is I can drive to Dublin airport and fly out to Florida cheaper than UK airports hahah pricing £400 September/October, not bad
US Airways DUB->CLT->MCO

I would be very reluctant to fly with Thomson again after the two long delays we had in May and also we like to go for 3 weeks at a time and Thomsons will only do 1 week, 2 weeks and sometimes 10 days but I have never found longer than 2 weeks.

The other huge plus is the clearing customs and immigration in Dublin. Not only do you avoid the queues and hassle when you land but the connection times can be much shorter usually meaning an earlier arrival at your final destination.

Some quite attractive World Traveller Plus fares loaded on ba.com this morning.
£801-840 in October/November/December and £875 in May look the stand outs.

Is World traveller plus equivalent to Virgin Premium Economy? Been looking at end April into May and that is coming up at £1300 , their sale only covers dates to end March.

Yes, it's the BA equivalent.

We have been for 3 weeks with Thomson, there are fewer 3 week late booking flights but they do have some.
Been a while (2014) since last in Orlando so took the punt and booked flights for next year. BA were doing return flights for £560, so I booked flights for my wife and I which I thought was really good deal as it is less than I have paid on my last 2 or 3 trips. On top of that, I got £120 off the total bill by using my Avios points. I really think that air fares will start to creep up in line with oil price and Brexit thingy. Also, little point in booking out of Ireland, as you have additional costs associated with that leg.
Bottom line is, when you see the price you are happy with, grab it. As more often than not, this is the best deal. Once booked, do not look at prices again for that trip.

Oh how I agree with this! It's only going to be irritating.

I respectfully beg to differ there.
On average, Economy flights to MCO from DUB on my preferred airline are around £200-250 per passenger cheaper than from my local UK airport (and Business Class prices are often around half the cost). For October next year, for example, fares are around the £375 mark on many dates.
Obviously there are some additional costs to get there and it's not for everybody but the more people in a party the more worthwhile it becomes.

There you go, it is what you are happy with. I found the same flights yesterday that I already have for £415, gutted. As far as Ireland goes, in our circumstances, we would also need an overnight hotel.

Fair comment.
It works best for Premium/Business Class flights and where you have a family party. I agree that for 2 passengers in Economy it's close call especially when an overnight stop is required but it's always work a look at fares from Ireland and other European cities IME.
