Are there any whale watching trips available (we are going in April) or are there any boat trips you can go on which just attract dolphins?
When we were in New Zealand, we went on a boat trip round some islands and the dolphins just came and swam in the bow wave!
Here's hoping.....
We did whale watching in the Canaries. Kids loved it
Lots of the boat trips that you can take from around the Gulf Coast will hopefully include seeing some wild dolphins. Dolphin info is here http://www.protectwilddolphins.org/research.html

The best for Dolphin viewing and a fantastic ride is the 'Sea Screamer' trip from Clearwater Beach Marina. It is the biggest speedboat in the world and creates a mega wake that the dolphins are atracted to.
Look at Google and enter sea screamer.
As well as Clearwater, there is a good dolphin watch boat leaving from outisde the Florida aquarium in Tampa ( good place to visit too). Plenty of manatee watches also but do whales visit those waters? There are loads in Seaworld though!!
Northern Right whales apparently visit the northeastern (Atlantic) coast in the winter (end of December to end of March) to give birth.
