Arguably the closest beach to Kissimmee, easpecially to those villas at the east end of 192 as effectively you just keep going along 192 in that direction, through St Cloud and past Lake Lizzie and just keep going!! After about 50 miles, you hit Melbourne. The beach is unlike other beaches that I have been to in that it is very surfy and reminded me of the beaches in Newquay, Cornwall more than Florida. We arrived late afternoon and there were a lot of really professional surfers doing their bit- quite entertaining. Would not think it is a good place for small kids but older kids and teenagers would have a gas out there with a boogie board.
Not much else at the beach apart from a few surf shops and eating houses, though there is a very nice mall on the way into the resort. Take plenty of quarters as the only parking we managed to find ( which was right by the beach) was metered.
